From my visit and talking to others the FEO do like to see the use of a key box , can be fixed in a wardrobe , anywhere inconspicuous, eliminates the chance of someone coming across your keys , for the price of them might be worth considering, it’s another tick in the plus column

Make sure you secure the wooden block to the base of the cabinet so it cant be "removed". I had my cabinet on a ply box to keep it above the skirting but made sure to use the 4 holes in the base and coach screwed the cabinet to the base and the cabinet to the wall.
i've got one mate, and got a few options where to put it, cheers for that

Make sure it's properly secured, my visitation like some others posting included a good wigging on an open cabinet door. I did think about refusing to open it as I didn't think I had to but I complied anyway. It should be installed away from direct view from an outside window and disguised even if it's draping a coat over it, mine was.

My FEO politely refused Tea/Coffee and Biscuits/Cakes. He said he gets so many from well meaning license holders that by mid afternoon he has reached capacity.
My two cabinets are rawlbolted to internal brick wall. They are above a skirting board so they can fix flat to the wall. FEO, who is a big lad has a right old pull on the cabinets and is happy.
I live alone now, so anyone else knowing where my keys are is not an issue.
FEO was fine with me giving a set of keys for both house and gun cabinets to my good friend who is RFD. He actually thought it a good idea incase anything happens to me, the Police have easy entry and RFD can take custody of guns. RFD is also an executor of my will so be legal to dispose of them.
I am no spring chicken any more so i think it always wise to get your ducks in a row for when the worst happens.

seems like you've covered all angles, fair play. I've had a good pull on the cabinet and it's solid so
he's happy5 days a week, 6 visits in a day 2-4 Hobnobs a visit don’t rule it outi'm 18 stone and have had a good pull at it so hopefully he's not 19 stone

If every FEO was doing 30 visits a week, say 45 weeks a year, I don't think there would be any issue with people waiting for grants and renewals.
Main thing , don’t worry about it , answer any questions honestly it’s a final check , there not trying to trip you up or catch you out , it’s a chance to meet you , check where you live , how secure your property is , and for you to ask any questions that you may have ,
Don't have a Sh** tonne of Scotch on your Kitchen side , happened to me many years ago ! Thing was i was always winning the Salesman of the week back then and i would not be fit to drive if i did drink it all . In the end i did a deal with the MD . I did a lot of milage in them days

Oh heck yeah , you just remembered my empty milk bottle incident . Had to move out of my family home as a teenager in a hurry . when the FEO came to check my safe had to be fitted in the kitchen it had lots of empty milk bottles Glass ones then in the Kitchen . Copper thought at first i was building up for rioting , common in those times and the area. it was in a time we had to take glass bottles like that back to the shop , tough to do if your mostly away early morn to late evening . I had to do some explaining LOLi've got a whisky collection in the same room but all unopened bottles, i'll maybe hide them

A key box in itself isnt inconspicuous, even if hidden. Theyre not even difficult to open.
Not that I keep mine here, but keeping your keys in a pair of shoes in a shoe rack in a wardrobe or similar is far less telling than a keysafe.

Occasionally you hear of people doing inexplicably stupid things during their visit. A guy I knew years ago (who was a bit of a tit) was fond of a rant about immigrants and wasn’t very good at reading the room.
The line ‘of course I expect I’ll need my rifle for the b***dy immigrants before 5 years is out’ didn’t land well with the FEO….
