Forestry courses.

Evening all,

Anyone on here know of any forestry courses that are available as online learning that result in a recognised qualification? All the usual places to look are full time courses, and I'm not able to take a year out to do one as a full time student.

Any help is much appreciated 👍

Bangor uni do a msc forestry online course
Do have any experiance with this course?

Bangor is the only degree level course I know of (I am currently considering it).

Depending on your background you could start the process to become chartered. I imagine that will be just as useful as a degree (on paper)..

Have a look on the ICF and RFS websites, they list 'approved' courses.

Forestry England are currently recruiting for degree students. I think it’s like an apprenticeship but you get a degree at the end.

Just looked, they must have finished. I think this will be much more common in future. We need lots of new foresters every year to keep up with demand.

Bit of both to be honest, but ideally something that would go hand in hand with deer management, so that it enables me to see the bigger of picture of forestry and its needs while conducting the deer management.

Not quite what you're looking for, but maybe another route into the industry, the Forestry Commission are advertising a vacancy for an Apprentice Forest Craftsperson for the Central England Forest District at the moment. The area is approx 30,000ha of forest within a triangle formed by Blackpool, Hull and Milton Keynes.

Thanks, but that's not what I'm looking for 👍

Look at HW training in Dumfries. I was talking to Stephen there the other day, he’s now running mensuration courses for measuring timber and planted trees. There’s a lot of work about in Forestry in Scotland at the moment. Do some short courses and get some experience doing some of the supervisory work and then go from there.

There is an ABC course in Forestry i think throu the HCC college.

I have to admit i have no idea if its worth the paper its printed on, if u have enough NPTC chainsaw tickets as well u can get some sort of RFS award.
I have to admit i get muddled up with the whole new awards tickets/ levels thing not really sure wot L2 and L3 actually mean

I did look into it myself but wasnae sure if just a mickey mouse course that no one recognised

Last time I looked Inverness and Cumbria offered degrees, and you could still do post grad forestry at Oxford and Aberdeen
