204 for foxing unless your in England and shoot deer with it then 243 or 6xc

6. 5x55 is my favourite. But 223 is noticeably quieter which can useful.
All calibres will do it, just take the outside variables into consideration though.
Get on Strelok and do a bit of research tippy tappying.
The smaller calibres are superb for spotting the shot through NV, but stick a 20 mph side wind in and 200 mtrs can see massive wind drift (more than the hold off a couple of inch theory), this is when the runners occur.
Size with speed always helps.
Yep .243 fanboy, .223 rarely gets out of the cabinet now, but am considering a 22 hornet for close proximity work.

6.5 x 55 does the job at any range but I'm just about to order a 223 for fox rabbit ect as a dedicated night time rifle

I use whatever I have in my hands when I see charlie, that can be .22rf or 308win, 6.5needmore or the hmr.
if I am going out dedicated for Fox then I tend to stick with the 223 as I find its loverly and accurate at varying distances, quiet enough not to **** off every tree hugger around, cheap enough to feed, drops them on the spot when I do my part, and all setup with a pard for day or night use.

No runners since I stopped using the 270. For the really big buggers.
For me it's the .17 Rem not an off the shelf calibre as you can't buy any factory made rifles and you have to go the re barrel route.
But it's very accurate banjo string trajectory to 300 yds and has relatively low ricochet potential I say relatively low lightly treat it like all other calibres.
It's the gem on fox love mine.

Hey Rob, as a man of many calibres, have you ever had any dealings with Hornet sized perver, erm, persuasion sized calibres?
I still like the .223, but know on a windy night at 200 mtrs it steered off course a chunk. Easy worked out with apps and mind programming, but rarely have the time work that out on a stopped fox In the split second.
Step forth the hornets doing the same job, 11 grns (half of .223) of powder, doing minimal difference over a realistic fox distance with the same bullet (in .224) with a minimal loss of FPS.
Looking at this route myself shortly.

I have used a few personally and been out with lads with different cartridges to me.
My go to now is a 20 Tac .204 pill in anything between 32 and 50 grains, tends to have a 22-250 like bang flop. But without the extra noise or powder etc. Otherwise I use a 222 with a Photon sat on it. 243, 270 and 308 all took foxes even the humble 22lr has done its share.
