Game dealer late payments

It will be interesting or perhaps I should say critical to see how many GD's make it to the other side of C-19.

Frankly I'm not convinced things will return to anything approaching pre-lockdown normality in this regard and many of both the rouges and good guys in this industry will disappear without trace.

Hope I'm proved wrong if only because of the painful implications for Professional Deerstalkers in terms of carcass disposal and allied income. The former being something not to be underestimated in terms of its potential to impact UK-wide deer welfare and management.

I randomly got paid for 5 deer I had collected end of Jan yesterday. The 4 month delay meant I had completely forgot all about them to be honest. Pretty sure the rate per kg has changed at least once during this period. Shockingly I got paid the latest rate not the January one.

Luckily it was only 5 deer and I don’t have to count on this for part of my living like so many.
Like many have said It will be interesting to see what happens in the next 12 months.

Any excess I have this year will be shifted in skin through some of the Facebook sites like giving up the game. I did a few this way later part of last year and if nothing else it was nice to cutting a few links out of the supply chain. I also got paid cash on the spot rather than 4 months later. Slightly more hassle storing and meeting people etc, but I charged the same as the dealers were paying last year (before the massive drop) and the buyers commented it was good value.

Game Dealing is dead as a profession post C-19!

Get yourself set-up to sell/supply the 'bits' direct to the Public and/or local Public Houses and Restaurants when they re-open.

This C-19 thing is like the invisible worm, that flies in the night through a howling storm and has found out thy bed of crimson corruption.

Quite simple :- Late commercial payments: charging interest and debt recovery

Send a statutory notice say that unless payment is received with 7 days you will take further action. Then file at small claims court for the original value, plus interest plus recovery costs.

On your small claims demonstrate that you have Tried repeatedly to get payment.

If there was any issue with the product the buyer should have raised this with you immediately and disputed your invoice.

If a small claim is made then this tesults in A CCJ against the dealer which buggers up his credit rating hugely.

Follow up. They’ve just paid up at £1 a kg with a reduction for damage (fair enough but not had that from them before) Three and a half months since pickup. Anyway never again will they receive a deer from me. PETERBOROUGH GAME avoid them.

Cheers, Ff

While we're on the subject I'm gonna name one game dealer dodgy bast**d knocked me for a fallow doe and follower good couple years ago now, wouldn't answer his phone wouldn't return my calls the odd time he did sheepishly answer his phone he gave me a load of old twiddle his mother's been ill he's been looking after her, he's also stopd trading apparently didn't want anymore carcass he's stopd trading! But amazingly his website is still going strong! So MR PETE McLURE of HOWLETTS HALL venison in BRENTWOOD ESSEX you no good for nothing piece of sh*t snake in the grass im naming and shaming you di*ck head!
If anyone's still selling to this Muppet I would be interested to know!
Well done fella

Just in case there remains doubt allow me to confirm these guys have grown wise to the fact that an awfully large percentage of those who offer them deer carcasses do so because they are desperate to dispose of the beast and in some cases as an alternative to leaving it to decompose on site or taking it to the municipal dumb in a bin bag.

It's why I suggest every stalker who shoots more than a couple of deer a year get properly set-up to deal with the end product and to permit telling your less than friendly Game Dealer to "go sink into a badger set"!

Its quite an experience as I recently found out!

There is one in the Central belt of Scotland that has had so many names and been shut down so often he now has to use his wifes name as the owner.

He wasn't based in Stirling for a while was he?

If it is the same chap I am thinking about then I would not touch him with a barge pole...

Spoke with my game dealer tonight about getting paid so he's putting it through tomorrow👍.Only bad bit was he says it might go down to £1 p/k for red ,sika and roe £1.50 and still 90 day payment , so it's pish and going to be for a while till the restaurants and Hotels start up . Any yearlings I get now will be fed to the dog.

The whole venison market was in complete mess before COVID. Historically large proportion of game dealer's outlet was Germany. All the BREXIT fun and games and lack of any clarrity over tarriffs turned that from being a long term supply agreement, to we have n't a clue so will do it on load by load basis.

Add in some very large culls by the public sector flooding the market with venison.

And then add in COVID and complete lack of any hospitality market there is now little demand for venison.

Suggest leave it on the hoof, or butcher it yourself and supply to family, friends and neighbours.
