GMP and "Extra Checks"

I have had my certificate in for 7 weeks now on a variation. Can't get through on the phone as this has recorded message that asks you to send email.they give the email address in double quick time and it's not an easy one to get down. I listened to the recording 3times and gave up. I got it from their web site! I have sent 3 emails to follow up and it takes 2 days to reply and they just say that they have a back log! Service before this happened was 1st class now it's shambolic! Looking for a one for one now but not sure it's worth the agro. The least that they could do is let me and others know the likely time period. Let's not forget that they are there for us and not for them!

So what's the problem with that? :?:
Is there any particular reason why you want them to check your cabinets.

the problem is that ive posted off my licences as ive moved house and need the police to check the security of the house and give me my licences back with the new address on....as my rifles are now in storage i cant stalk or go foxing..

Why?
You have caused yourself unnecessary problems. Have a look on the BASC website regarding changes of address.

what do you mean why??

thats what the police told me to do when i phoned them up and told them im moveing, west yourkshire police told me the same when i left there force area, and GMP told me to do the same...move house place your guns with a RFD install new cabinets when they are satisfied my property is safe and secure they will issue me with new certificates with my new address on...isnt this normall??

No it isn't normal. You should have asked your shooting association for advise rather than simply phoning the police.

No I am afraid that I wouldn't be holding my breath on that one either, and as you have sent in your actual certificate you won't be able to recover your rifles from the RFD until you get it back. I'm sorry but I think you have been lead up the garden path on this one and it has cost you financially as well as loss of enjoyment.

Ask them for your old certificate back until your new one is ready. BASC advise not to send your certificate back at renewal

not sure on how i could get it back as ive moved from the address that it says on my certificate, will call them first thing tomorrow again, failing that its on to BASC and start the complaints procedure..

I think probably too late for that now Si but definitely worth checking out BASC. Just a pity fox stalker didn't look at their website first.

you live and learn as they say....i was only going off the info i was told by my FEO.

Sorry to hear of your plight! Phone BASC firearms dept. is the way to go, I've found them great! Some FEO overstep the mark! I've had a FEO call in when passing, when I didn't answer the door straight away - was in the shower, caught him looking through my windows. Was told they can do this to check if you have any firearms left about - rubbish had no reason to check firearms left about! Ask BASC first!

Wish it was here! Still looking for some where to use my 222.50 as FEO stated 32 acres not big enough - that is where I need it!! Says I should be mentored for 222.50. I had it on an open cert with a 3006 and 243 - think he is having a laugh! No longer have, or need, a 3006 or 243! The FEO may have though he was making a kind gesture by offering to shoot the deer for me and looking after my rifle for me until I got mentored, so that he would allow me to renew my fire arms cert., but I think differently! Some men need to respect a woman who shoots and those that don't shouldn't be FEOs! I wish my RSM was still around!

Fox Stalker, for your information your new Licensing office are completely out of order telling you to do what you did, the law only requires you to inform the the issuing force of your change of address NOTHING ELSE!!
Your issuing force will then inform your new area licnesing office and they will make arrangements to check your security, no matter how much they try to bully you,
you DO NOT NEED TO SURRENDER your current FAC until it expires.
As for placing your guns with a RFD untill your security is approved, they are really taking the pi$$
I think you should lodge an official complaint, i certainly would.

Ian.

Ian though absolutely correct did you really have to spell it out quite so bluntly. :-D I tried to be slightly more diplomatic and directed fox stalker to the BASC site where it says pretty much the same as you have just described.
Yes they did take the mick by giving poor advise, and you are right it probably does at least warrant a letter of complaint.

I get quite worked up when licensing offices do this type of thing knowing that most Licence holders are reluctant to rock the boat or are unaware of the process.
