I saw the speech. A privileged prig. Good God if she wants to see what a child's stolen dreams and stolen childhood look like she should go to parts of West Africa. Kids on the street, sleeping rough, aged ten, twelve, existing on selling telephone charge cards or in order to survive selling their bodies or involved in delinquency by their middle teens. That's a true stolen childhood. Not spending four weeks on a million pound sailing yacht to lecture the UN.

Greta's mother is Malena Ernman a Swedish opera singer. I don't think she or Greta's father need to pack in their jobs so they can rake it in.
I won,t be taking any environmental advice from a 16 year old child. She looks more and more crazed every time they publish a picture of her. I heard on the radio this morning that many governments plus the pope have met her but not the Swedish government yet.

yes I bet the pope knows of plenty of people who like meeting little kids.
If what she says is right, (and it is) does the fact that she's a "puppet", "privileged prig" "bloody 16 year old lassie" make any difference to the accuracy of her message?

The very same thought went through my mind when she met the Pope. I would have thought that he was not the greatest expert on climate change. A expert on kiddy fiddling perhaps.

Yes. As you don't get co-operation by haranguing people or by talking at them.
And in any case those that need most to hear and heed the message...the Chinese presently...and India and West Africa aren't bloody listening. Because she's ultimatly saying that because Western Europe, the USA and Canada, Australia and Etc. have had their industrial revolutions and have modern countries with efficient infrastructure and high living standards because of carbon emitting technology that such should now be denied the people of emerging economies? As what we do in the UK and Europe will have negligible impact unless the same is imposed on the Chinese, the Indians and the nations of West Africa.
It's the usual smug nonsense "I'm alright Jack here in New York...so the rest of you must be denied the same means to make the progress we here have already used to achieve our comfortable position."

Well Joan did alright for a while then she became a tostie.
What is her message and why is it accurate? As far as I can see she's blaming capitalism, governments and big business for the environmental degradation caused by having 7.5 billion people swarming all over the planet, all wanting food, clothing, shelter, water, material prosperity, good health, a long life and jam tomorrow. Big governments, big business, industrialisation, medical pioneering and intensive agriculture are simultaneously both product and cause of an out of control human population. The two are inseparable, not mutually exclusive.
What precisely does she expect governments to do? Build a few more wind farms and introduce more socialism? If so what difference does she imagine that will make? Does she or her wealthy and privileged handlers really understand the problem and what are their answers?
