Thanks all for the input, I was leaning towards a nitecore before all the recommendations came in. Thanks to @Sharpie for the heads up on the NU17.
I’ve gone for one of those and I’ll see how I get on.
Cheers.
Sorry, must disagree with all of that. In particular that all LEDs are good nowadays. They really are not, the cheap ones often have a blueish tint, are inefficient, and poorly focussed for a useful beam. Blue tint BTW is hopeless in mist or fog, just bounces back at you. A warm-white, or ideally a high CRI LED is vastly superior.Whichever option above you choose my advice would be to go cheap. LED's are universally good these days and if all you need is occasional and 'around the home and garden' use then splashing for a Petzl or similar is like buying a Blaser when all you do is humane despatch.
If you're anything like me one of two things will happen anyway .. You'll leave the batteries in during Summer and they'll leak and knacker the torch completely, or you'll stick it in a pocket from which it will fall, never to be found again. Cheap ones are better in both scenarios
My own is an Ever Ready job from B+Q. It does red or white light and was cheap as chips. It still works despite once being worn during an unexpected moonlight swim which resulted in it having to be emptied and dried out in the oven.

Lots to choose from nowadays. This is what I chose, quite a few years ago, the X5 from www.otrlight.com. Still listed for 2022 but a quick search failed to find a vendor.. Mine is I think a limited edition with a warm white LED. Massive 26650 5Ah cell, USB rechargeable too. A satisfyingly chunky thing. Bought it from a Chinese supplier for ISTR £18, shipped. Banggood.com. It is the model shown on the headline section, third dot from the left. 26650 torches, BTW can also accept the commonplace 18650 cells, with a simple plastic sleeve adaptor.@Sharpie out of interest what 1000 lumen torch do you have / recommend?
Led technology has passed me by a bit to be honest, I went from a clubman lamp to a NV scope, so missed out any Led torches.
For the money these are unbeatable. @gixer1 mentioned them on here last autumn. So good that all my colleagues use them now! Can’t recommend highly enough.I know a few members (including myself) bought these after @gixer1 mentioned them. SO far I've absolutely no complaints. I bought two, and they've been great!

Just bought one of these - Wide Beam Rechargeable COB LED Headlamp Headlight Head Torch Super Bright Band | eBay A whole £10…and the light is ridiculously bright. The main thing is it’s motion activated by waving your hand near it - great for in the dark gralloched after last light and not...www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk

The odd thing is - they were £10 when I bought them and now I can’t find them on eBay - they seem to be on some of the chinese sales type sites for £30-40!For the money these are unbeatable. @gixer1 mentioned them on here last autumn.
