Head torches.

Can anyone recommend a good quality head torch ? I don't want to spend a fortune, but would like something rugged.

Have a look at Black Diamond range. Not too expensive and some of them like the "Spot" have an IPX8 rating so they are less likely to die in the rain or if you drop it in a puddle. I went through two others in two seasons before I got one and its on its forth season now.

Petzl Tactikka Plus. Use mine for night sea trout fishing and for stalking and find it plenty bright enough and good red lens for the river.

Have a look at Decathlon a mate and I both bought a rechargeable one for work. Three light levels and red (red first). Good battery life and charges from a usb. Mine has been dropped sat on etc and is still going strong. I don’t often feel the need to use full power so it tends to last well between charges

I’ve got this one which I can’t fault. I use it for stalking, dog walking, running etc and my partner, a farm vet, uses her identical one for operating on cows etc at night. Well worth the £70. Battery lasts well and is usb rechargeable. (I had a petzl non rechargeable one that died on me whilst looking for a deer at night which wasn’t great when I then didn’t have a light to gralloch it with). Good adjustability on the brightness and good flood/spot adjustment on the beam too.

which ever model you choose, you should know if the torch shall be in continues use just for occasional light supply.
If you use it very frequently get a rechargeable one. If it intended to sit in the glove compartment for occasional use when needed get something that is fed with lithium batteries which last for years even at freezing temperatures.
