Heads up for Stihl equipment (South East Scotland)

Anyone thinking of new Stihl equipment, Sherriffs , who have places in East Lothian and the Borders are getting rid of their Stihl franchise.

I've no idea why, they are the biggest dealer around and most folk round our way use Stihl because of Sherriffs, but what it means is that the gear they have is on a massive sale.
Chainsaws, mowers strimmer etc etc , basically all of their stock (the full range of everything in Haddington) has to go.
They finish with Stihl at the end of the year and will no longer even service them or order spares.

Bizarre but their you are. If you need gear, get in their. Some gardening outfits are buying multiple grass machines at huge discounts. One guy bought £1700 quids worth and it came to £900

Just thought some might find it useful. (Mrs Rake has banned me from going back lol, ,,little does she know ,, haha)

I guess Stihl have removed Sherriffs franchise for some reason.possibly awarding it to one of the other big agri dealers

Border Chainsaw Services are a dealer if an alternative is required.

Other way round. Management at Sherriffs have binned Stihl.

I suspect there will be a new dealer in Macmerry but the sale at Haddington is going to cost me that's for sure lol.

Looking at the dealer locator on the Stihl web site there are quite a few "garden centre" dealers in the area. I don't think I would want to trust Dobbins to look after my kit though!

No indeed. I did get a heads up that a tractor dealer who already does Husquvarna is taking on service work at least.

I have a mate that worked with Sherriffs Hadington until a few months ago. Mostly on farm machines but did golf course stuff too.

Many people looked at dumping Stihl when they stopped the online ordering of parts - Stihl apparently had such a drop in sales that they reversed the decision.

I have always gone with proper orange….and not the newer electronic dross - a 365 upped to a 372…heavy but bullet proof!

Due to warranty work, you can buy any stihl product boxed for home assembly anywhere, then it goes wrong and it gets taken to sheriffs for the work as the online retailer or garden centre can't do it, sheriffs then get paid for parts but not all the labour

The garden centres send them off to 3rd party servicing agents.

I suspect Sheriffs are tired of getting the ‘but I can buy it cheaper xyz and on Amazon’ they’ll
Likely go with a more niche brand with a tighter grip on their distribution network.

Nothing worse than trying to retail something in a bricks and mortar dealership when online shops are undercutting you. No easy to solution to that unless the manufacturer uses a ‘selective distribution ’ strategy that is legally watertight. I suppose, how Recknagel can legally get away with Alan Rhône as exclusive UK distributor, even though exclusive distribution is illegal

This. As far as I knew you couldn’t buy a saw online .

Anyhoo they’ve just phoned me so I’m off to spend money.
Mrs Rake just went out to work lol

I bought a Stihl MSA online about a year ago

My Son just bought a husky online next day delivery

Shame it will be sh#te thou.

Just had a 2nd carb put on 1 of mine just over a year old.

To be fair the dealers have been brand new with the warranty work, but said 4 folk been in he last fortnight said wil never buy husky again ( 3 are pro woodcutters)
Nothing like the brand they were.

Only way they save there rep in uk is if they start selling the 3 series again which they still make for worldwide sales elsewhere

Stihl tried to stop online sales and regulate prices a good few years ago, althou it never really worked.
Most of the local dealers will match or come very close to these online prices, and even if a wee bit dearer still worth paying to guarantee service and spares

I find sherriffs quite difficult to deal with, almost like they cant be bothered. Id say the same of both Hexham and Jedburgh.

Dont think sthil is the quality it used to be either. But I can always get cheap oriental bits on line when the stop, which really for the amount they get used shouldnt be stopping.

Alnwick and Coldstream branches have been fine with me, also had dealings with Cramlington which went smoothly

Thanks for the heads up, RA, collecting a new toy next week or thereafter.

Haddington are the complete oops of that.
The guys in there bend over backwards to get you what you want, and always do a deal.
One of the best retail places I’ve ever used tbh.
