High Seats

Any recommendation on good value for money high seats?

I am currently looking at this:

The main thing selling this one to me is it is higher than most for sale, which will likely be a benefit as the land I shoot is flat!

Did anyone try one? Anything to watch out for? Anything better?

I’ve had a couple of cheap high seats like it. They are cheap and that’s the only thing going for them. Thin metal that rota very quickly. Too narrow to swivel in. Vou can build better for less in tanalised timber and it will last longer. If you want a quality metal high seat then you won’t go far wrong with Keith’s High Seats (Google it) about 50% more expensive than that one but 300% better.

Here’s one I built in half a day for less than £100

Thanks. Will take a look.

Timber is a possibility. But timber isn't that cheap at the moment!

Can I ask what the cord is for on the ladder area?

Oh I see! Didn't know that.

I would imagine those u staples will just rip out with any real weight though.. I've had them pull out on various things before.

I learnt something today though! Thanks.

Wouldn’t stop my bulk for sure….but it’s legal. Also note the no unauthorised access sign!

In my opinion the wire is far too loose as it would be touching the next rung down before it held any weight. But just my opinion.

as long_range_rob said, those seats are cheap for a reason. They are made for a price and won't last long. Plus the seating position is usually crap with the rail too high or too low, the rest too flexible and only allowing shots directly out the front as the sides slope down so much.

Save your money and build one out of timber or get one of Keith's. World of difference.

Thanks. The other thing with wood is storing it and moving it around the farm.... much easier with one of the assembled seats.

If you buy one put masking tape over all the holes and block one end then fill with any old metal paint you have lying around then drain back into the paint pot to do the other tubes. Painted outside but all this Chinese stuff rots from the inside out like old Alfa Romeos.

I can definitely recommend Sussex High Seats (on Facebook or Friday-Ad usually advertised). Made of metal but in two parts unlike other more expensive ones. The last double one I sourced was £210 and it's plenty big enough for two adults. As they are made in just two pieces there isn't all the joins to assemble like in Keith's ones so less water ingress and less faff setting up on site. He will deliver or arrange a courier too so location isn't an issue.

Well worth checking out and a phone call or chat will allow you to make modifications too.

Before you go buying seats, pitch up at the spot with your sticks and do a few sessions there.

I always take my sticks as if by chance you chip one and can't get off a second shot because of a wrong angle etc you will have to get down and follow up so then the same applies to standing and waiting.

Flat land is no good for the bi-pod gang but with good knowledge of your ground a shot off twins or quads is on a much steeper down angle then a BP.

I shoot more deer and foxes out of a seat than in it as I control where I go also when I shoot not the seat.

Yes my wooden one magically cut through its 5ton tow chain and walked away.
Never to be seen again.
Now I've got the portable folder from A1 that comes home for safety.

Nah- it’s doubled over….. the staples will hold it….

I’ve just ordered my third high seat from Keith’s high seats…… I’m 24 stone ( and 6’10’’- so more haggrid than giant haystacks….) they’re strong enough and quality…..

I’ve two powder coated high seats from Keith ( both single plus) both are ten years old with only minor rust at a couple of joints ( file down the powder coat and hammerite)….
