Hilux daytime running lights

I don't think you can, without invasive surgery (Active models have a different loom apparently), but you can adjust the sidelight sensitivity.

I have fitted an “inhibit switch” to my Freelander 2 - some hard poring over circuit diagrams though. All I have to do now is to remember to turn them off and on again :banghead:

Hi, does anyone know how to turn the daytime running lights off on a mk8 Hilux, many thanks

Would I be right in thinking that you want to do this when using the vehicle offroad at night such as when lamping. Correct me if I am wrong but I think that the daytime running lights are a legal requirement on this model when on the highway, so you are looking for a simple switching arrangement for differing uses?

I think your right 8x57, I enquired at the garage when I had my Hilux and was told they couldn't do it because they had to be on, I'm sure a switch could be put in somewhere but not sure if it would show up as a fault on the dashboard.

Got exactly the same problem with my Duster. I can take the bulbs out but then I could get pulled over by the fuzz, which wouldn't be good with a rifle on board.
I wish I could fit a convoy blackout switch like the army L/Rovers had.

I've looked into this in the past. It is a legal requirement for manufacturers to fit them (since 2011 ish I think) but not a legal requirement to use them. I can't find any legislation that says you can't fit a switch or turn them off. Although most dealerships are understandably reluctant to get involved in this as the requirement is on the manufacturer not the owner, so they see it as them fitting a switch to bypass something they legally have to provide. Bit of a grey area.

Can be turned off with a diagnostic unit, manufacturers or launch etc or remove the headlamp control module and snip off the drl pin.

Meant to add that you can put a switch in the line to the drl pin then you have the best of both worlds

Just a point to note on the Hilux, if you disable the daytime running lights the auto headlights still come on, so nothing gained if using it for off-road night time use, I disabled the drl by pulling the fuse, but put it back when I realised the auto headlights still worked!

Thanks everyone, I have phoned a couple of dealership and they don’t really want to know as they say it is a legal requirement,
Ubique: could you not just turn the auto headlights off on the indicator stalk?
Does anyone know where the headlight module is, I know it’s behind the glove box but there’s a lot of wires etc in there, many thanks

You can switch the auto headlamps to manual as well
