How many rounds do you shoot?

Hi all,

Just been looking at my rifle ammo usage this year and I was wondering how many rounds people actually fire a year? Just interested in the 'average' stalkers consumption really.

To start it off, In 2017 I estimate I shot about 500 rounds total across stalking, load development and target shooting. Mostly this is a mix of .308 and .270, although I also used .223, .303 and .357.

Total rounds for direct 'stalking' purposes (at deer or checking zero on the day) stands at a massive 8 rounds.

For comparison, my shotgun total was in the region of 5,500, all 12 bore.

How do you compare?
Al.

only 500 per rifle is the norm for my stalking rifles then i sell them on , my 280 ai has just gone over that amount but i don't feel the need to sell it as yet as its such a nice rifle and will continue to prove its worth .
when i used range rifles they were used until they got shot out then swap out the barrel
CZ.22 lost count 1k's worth i expect but still bug holes :D

Here in the UK this year.

1-200 .22LR either bunny bashing or 'checking zero'.
70 .243 doing load develoment - the only planned stalk got cancelled as I was ill.

Over in the US.

1,000 plus 5.56x45
800 plus 7.62x51
40 .270
200 .22RF
1,200 plus .38spl/.357mag
4-500 .45ACP

Most of my practice/'fun' shooting's done over the Pond, as it's a lot cheaper than here, plus of course, all my handgun shooting's there.

With early retirement beckoning, I'll be doing a LOT more shooting in the UK, plus I intend to increase time spent in the US.

Cheers gents, interesting stuff. Some big totals here for the rimfies. Is this mostly bunnies or range use as well?

Hey Mark did'nt you forget Bisley Range day with SD earlier in the year! :tiphat:

BC..

My rimfire rounds (.22lr & .17hmr), - 10000+ per year.
My .22Hornet mostly home loads, - approx. 200+ per year.
.223 - Only had it a couple of months, so too early to tell
12g several hundred per year , usually split a bulk buy with my shooting partner.

17hmr-approx 1200 a year
223-between 4-500 a year
12b-about 500
22 air-as many as I want because they cost pretty much nothing! Think this year about 2.5k between 2 of us

This is quite interesting-
My totals
.22 5-600
.17 300
.223 250
.308 300 mostly zero and load development but less than 10 stalking.
12 bore clays 2000 game 250
20 bore 150

at my last renewal my FEO said I would have to use more rifle ammo or he would reduce my 'can hold' allocation - if he was still in the job.
Moving and illness have cramped my style a bit last year - still, range use will be a lot higher this year for all calibres.

Interesting totals, particularly when rifles for sale always seem to be advertised as having low (50 or less) round counts....:stir:

2017 totals:

.22lr c400
.22-250 382
.308 291
7.62 660
.300WSM 234

12b 2250

Lighter than last year due to a new arrival in April. .300WSM although a few rounds fired most were load dev and lr informal target shooting. I only shot 5 beasts with it.

.308 mainly practice although I shot 34 deer with it. .22-250 some practice but lots of vermin accounted for. same for .22lr. 7.62 was all TR at Bisley. 12b I've had a few clays this year after joining a little syndicate and a good year driven.

I expect this number to fall again for next year due to increasing family commitments however I still expect to get out at least once a week.
