Interesting article on 243, BASC magazine

Thats all well and good except no-one in the UK has died from eating lead shot meat. If it was really that bad and the risk was that high to ban it, it would be nice to see the evidence to back it because currently, there really isn't any.

We can all argue till we're blue in the face and it won't change anyone's opinions. Lead is bad in certain forms, along with practically anything else in our ecosystem, from excessive heavy metals to exhaust fumes. Its about mitigating risk but except the current risk of lead is frankly minimal as it stands. Vehicle manufacturers put "world saving" emissions limiting devices in place (not that they work mind, it all gets burnt out one way or another but it looks good on paper 😂). If they want to mitigate said 'risk', only lead free shot game to go in to the commercial food chain, allowing people to still shoot what they like and eat it if they so desire. Boosh, risk gone. That's ultimately what its about, risk to humans (getting over the anti's side of it anyway and wanting to ban shooting altogether).

What we all need to agree on is BASC sold us out to suit their own agenda and it somewhat backfired and that's something people aren't going to get over.
Its your choice to use lead ammunition so do as you wish and please don't post misinformation about BASC. There are restrictions in the pipeline for UK and EU. Blaming BASC is ridiculous for a worldwide move away from lead shot; the primary reason for that move is concern for birds ingesting lead shot as grit and seed and suffering lead poisoning as a result as per over 100 years of science evidencing this.

You are free to carry on believing that lead is not harmful, no one has died from eating lead, and that it doesn’t do any harm to wild life.

However the vast majority of Scientific, Medical and Government opinion takes the completely opposite view.
“However the people who share my opinion takes the completely opposite view”

There you go chap….. fixed it for you😎

There's no misinformation on that post whether you like that or not.

Oh I will continue to believe that until you can prove otherwise that eating lead shot game is harmful, because you can't.

So have shot a further two youngish cull bucks on Friday evening with 243 and 80gn Fox. First was at a good range - getting on for 200. In a replant do had to go. Gusty wind. Waited for a lull and it dropped on the spot, straight into a ditch with reeds - good job hound on hand.

And on the way back with it in the roe sack, out pops another buck on a ride in the trees. Wasn’t expecting to shoot anything more, but if you don’t take the opportunities - racked the bolt and shot it off hand - probably 50 yards. Shot was a touch low and it made 30 yards downhill into the woods.

Been skinning and butchering today. On all of them small entry and decent sized entry wounds with lots of bruising on the exit wound. Even on the one at 200 and the one i shot in a previous post at 150, decent sized exits and bruising.

The bruising is from the high velocity and clearly plenty of good expansion.

It's time to smell the coffee!

The threads discussing lead on SD have provided links to some very good scientific reports.

Keyboard warriors on SD are happy to post ad nausea on their view that a lead ban is unnecessary. I suspect none have contacted their MP?

The recommendations by the HSE have been made to Parliament, we await their enacting in the near future.

Posting that you won't comply with the law should "help" your next certificate renewal.

Time to use up your lead ammo and look at alternatives.

have a look at a recent thread quoting some very skewed and flawed german research , while being passed off by the poster as sound and even misquoting his own figures to benefit his anti lead crusade , nah sorry not convinced.
its a very thinly veiled threat to shooting which for some inexplicable reason shooters and orgs think is a good thing .

I posted about using fibre wad on Lucerne which is much more available in lead cartridge than in the non toxic range but it was not understood.

It is easily explained, the people who produce high end horse feed require a fibre wad cartridge used as the plastic cup which is in a lot of steel cartridges cannot go into their food chain. It has nothing to do with lead it has everything to do with fibre v plastic wads.
Yes they do make a bio wad but the firbe range is far greater. In time it will catch up but I have shot lucerne fields for 25 years and followed the requirements, I have and still shoot steel on the marsh since I needed to with the change.
There are shoots who peg out on Lucerne for some drives and they are told to use FW or bio was but you can bet it is fibre and lead.

Have prepped but not very hopeful...
Some expanded but most didn't.

@cjm1066
Also Chris the other "science gang" who ****ed up the general licence by meddling so much one year that people had more bits of paper than the GL itself.
This is how stupid they are by recommending a bird deterrent (cormerents) used in Fish farms in Israel as a method to deter pigeons on crops in the UK!! FFS lol
Phil Juniper as Ms M Spain sat there and had a new a rse torn by the Efra committee. Science FFS lol
