Hi, i'm new to hunting and me and 2 friends of mine were interested in going on a guided stalk for probably muntjac sometime soon for our first hunt and I was just wondering if a 3 person group is ever done or would 2 seperate groups be better?
Thanks

Stalking isn't really a team game, it's not something where it's the more the merrier. There are shooting disciplines where it is more of a social thing (not that stalking is anti-social). So if you think doing something with your friends is part of what you are after, perhaps driven boar or even game bird or clay shooting or range shooting might be better.

It's 'individual' in what you do in your area, but it's 'team' in so far as a few people can position themselves around the land where game is likely to move, in my opinion...
Absolutely and on an area that has cull targets you might be working in conjunction with other stalkers and obviously you will be liaising with landowners and the like. But you get my drift.

Simple answer yes. But it would depend on your definition of stalking. I went (because I had to) with my two lads. There were six of us altogether and we were placed in high seats around various deer holding spots (so we were told). We blanked the weather played a large part, but it certainly wasn’t what I was expecting.
Personally I would prefer one or at the most two.
I went with my eldest (again because I had to) for his CWD. We walked around with the guide and he got two (I wasn’t shooting) so it’s possible but wouldn’t be my first choice.

Largest group I’ve had out with me on the hill was 15….

Me, the ‘guest’ for the day and 13 other family members…. A traditional approach for this family on their estate in the North West highlands where all members of the Lodge party come out on to the hill for the first day’s stalking of their week. Was a total nightmare, trying to keep them together and get them to focus/shut up/pay attention when required…. Needless to say we rarely blanked, and on reflection, it was great craic to have a big Gang on the hill…. Also makes it easier dragging stags to Argo when you have a small army of keen and able people!

Probably worked to your advantage in that the deer figured it was a group of w8nking hill walkers, instead of a sneaky wee prick with a gun trying to kill them again! 😂

Must admit, when I've been on the hill, there has usually be four of us. Two stalkers, me and Mrs O. Never been a problem as long as they follow the lead of the stalker, keep quiet, keep out of sight and do what they're told.
Not so much in woodland stalking and I would still aim for 1 to 1 after Roe or other small deer species.

Yes I agree but that’s on the hill, not grubbing about on farmland

The main thing that I enjoy about stalking is that it is a solo sport - Well, apart from the dog.
Now, I understand that this will not be possible whilst under training, but it is a thing to be cherished once you have been released.
Rather like your first solo on an aircraft.
Stalking is not just about going out and shooting things - like game shooting.
You must think this thing through carefully before proceeding.

Three shooters ? No law about it but it creates more problems than solutions . If one is dropped off and instructed not to move about but stay until collected the outcome will be better by a long way . Two shooters walking / s with rifles is more than enough the results will only drop after that

Thanks for the responces it does make sense that 3 people + guide stalking wouldnt be very quiet but do any stalkers advertised on here let multiple groups of people book and then go to different areas?

The crux of the matter would be what experience you may or may not have, it would be reasonable for a guide to ask, so if it was none then it would be a different take on it x 3.
Look at a have-a-go clay stand it it one person a time with 1 cartridge and the coach standing ready to act.
That is a clay target not a deer.
TBH 3 people does not make sense at any point when you first posted it but it does now!
