Is the .270 the ultimate unfashionable all rounder...

The 270 has accounted for the majority of deer in Scotland ,up to the last 5-10 years anyway.
It’s just a work horse of a thing ,no frills ,no fancy BC, yet it still knocks them down time and time and time again.
I would think the 6.5x64 has probably killed more since most estates seemed to have one, until the law changed.

Is the .270 the ultimate unfashionable all rounder...??

Yes, it's a bit more recoiling, a bit more noisy, not much bullet weights to choose from and yes there's more modern cartridges BUT go in to any Scottish gun shop or on any Scottish sporting estate and you should find some ammo...
Still true..??
It is now, but it’s due to be rediscovered next year on its 100th birthday.

You better get one now to beat the crowds.

Nothing wrong with the 270 that handloading won't sort out.
A 130gr pro-hunter at 2,700/2'800fps works every time even out to 300yds.
What's the point of that? Lopping 300 fps off its potential is hardly a recommendation for the cartridge, more like a recommendation for something entirely different

The point is a 130gr bullet cup and core type won't blow your Roe to pieces
becouse it's not traveling at 3'200fps simples.

Not convinced it’s an all rounder but as a deer killer it does take some beating especially with copper I'm led to believe
When o first started reloading copper 2010 a 130gn ttsx @ 2850/2900 was spot on bullet damage was no bigger that £2 coin on the exit on everything, loaded correctly and not maxed out with the wrong projectile, it’s perfect

Quite a few folk up here who are shooting quite a few deer are going with it for the copper job - haven’t tried it myself but heard good things
