Some of the things in this country are becoming ridiculous, we have a car that has an engine management light on, tried changing various sensors etc at c.£100 a time but no solution. New MoT legislation now says that it won't be able to pass a test despite running perfectly well, meeting emissions regs etc. Before anyone suggests it, you can't just disconnect the light because this is checked. Basically we are going to have to scrap or sell/trade in for a pittance a perfectly good car for no reason whatsoever! Not condoning it but you can see why people don't bother playing the game with rules and regs etc.
Birmingham Proofhouse were insistant that this made it officially out of proof, meaning that no gunsmith could do work on it and release it to the owner, or sell it, until it was resubmitted for proof.
Not wishing to hijack the thread but is this supposed to be a light that comes on with ignition and goes off when engine running ?
Am I right in understanding that the proof house damaged the gun?
Can’t you get compensation then? Enough to cover cost of repairs or replacement?
Seems extremely unjust if not.
If the firing of a proof load damages the gun, it's deemed to have failed. No come-back, as far as I'm aware.

Pine Martin, try Teague chokes they make a full lelength thin wall sleeve that they fit inside the original barrel with a bit of machining

It's still my gun and I could have it back, but can't sell it or anything. Under those circumstances, I don't want it. Neither do I want it just as a single shot rifle: the whole point is that it's also a shotgun. So I'm going to give it a year to see if spare barrels can be found, and if not, I'll scrap it or sell it for parts, and probably import a better drilling from France or Germany, or see if anything exciting and not too expensive turns up at auction.
Afterthought: is anyone interested in a 6x43 Nickel scope with a German Number 1 reticle, with the upper half of the claw mounts? How about with the bases too?
