Lead v Lead

Have to say, I’ve seen full lorry’s turn up with hundreds of red, roe, sika, hares, ducks, pheasants, partridges, etc, all stacked on top of each other like bodies, crammed so full tailgates can hardly shut. And that’s with pretty reputable dealers, going to very reputable distributors, selling to supermarkets, might add….

Also seen larders emptied onto dirt covered floors (mud, pigeon shjite, etc), all deer and hares and feathered game just thrown in a pile outside, for the cheap eastern European workers to chop away at, before ending in established local borders restaurants
I won’t mention what I’ve seen 🙈😂

The proposals from HSE:

Will allow us to use lead rifle bullets on outdoor ranges with a lead recovery in place.

They will ban the use of shotguns on all clay pigeon shooting grounds even if lead recovery is undertaken. So at say Bisley you can use lead on the rifle range but not the adjacent clay ground. An old clay range I used was stripped of its lead commercially.

Then elite athletes are excempt!

This looks illogical and something to fight for in the legislation?

Even if they ban the sale of lead cartridges goes through it would allow us to use up old stocks on some clay grounds.

PS the aurgments on the "dangers" of lead and the failures of "X" organisation have been debated extensively on SD and don't need repeating.
No, leave it well alone, they won’t allow lead shot on clays they’ll ban lead bullets on rifle ranges to bring it in line.

That will f*ck a whole lot more people over than the current potential change.

If they allow the sale of lead shotgun cartridges for clay pigeon shooting, these will simply end up being used fir game shooting.

There is plenty of very good evidence that many shooters will not abide by the law. The HSE use the example of the high percentage of wild ducks offered for sale containing lead shot.

With target shooting FMJ bullets do not perform very well on deer and this the temptation to use them is very much less. I am sure there will be a few who will snip the ends off, or turn them over in the same way 303 Ball was doctored to perform better on game.
FMJ doesn’t come into the equation, most bullets are HP such as the sierra matching or Lapua scenar or poly tipped.

Plenty of people already using things like the sierra tipped match king or hornady ELD-M in the field. Only takes a few to get caught and target shooting will be over for most people.

The ridiculous things about this are A) that nobody has any real interest at all in enforcing this sort of legislation, B) that nobody believes it will do any good and C) almost nobody outside the Packham Avery mutual masturbation society gives two hoots anyway. It’s a massive pain in the butt to achieve nothing.

It would be in the sock drawer, along with the rest of the ammo that exceeded your allowance.
Actually that's a damn good example of an unenforceable law. I'm not suggesting that FAC holders routinely exceed their allowance but discoveries and prosecutions must be few and far between.
