Long range bunnies

Why the 400m range? On a golf course a .17hmr would be my choice of round for this, fast flat & not prone to ricochet & definitely cheaper than a 6.5cm.
Walk & stalk with sticks 100-150m ranges 👍
I had more audible ricochets with HMR than I ever have with WMR and even less with .223 and fast, frangible bullet.

HMR is slooooooow compared to my .223 AI and a heavier bullet with thin jacket is more likely to break up than a small, light 17 gr one.

Buy a 223 with a 1 in 9 or 1 in 8 twist.
Cheap to shoot and won't tear up the turf either....Tikka or Remington would be my go to....

First thing you will be doing is carving up the ground with a heavy caliber like that on rabbits! as said golf courses come to life at night, ive seen the lot, poachers netting the pond, 3 people in the full wetsuit diving for balls, had someone hitting flashing balls down the fairway an hour after light, dog walkers at 2.am, drug deals etc.
All divots to be replaced

Ideal job for a .204, quite envious if I'm honest as no longer have the space for such opportunities.
Tikka supervarmint with 39's work so well.

Thanks for your answers guys. I do love the presumption that my 6.5 is a Creedmore. Other 6.5s are available you know and some of us owned one before creedmores became trendy🤭
Yes getting closer is of course the right answer but I rarely get the chance to stretch out to those kind of distances.
Interested in a 223 as as an option.

Been offered the chance to shoot long range rabbits. Up to 400m on a golf course.

What would you use? I already have a 6.5 but wonder if anything lighter might be as good.

I shoot rabbits in Lincs on the edge of the Fens. Big flat fields with no cover. I shoot after dark with a Pard 007 and a 17HMR. Its fairly easy to get within 100 yds of rabbits after dark if you take the wind into account.

.22lr I’ve shot the odd bunny with a centrefire, but at £1-£2 per shot the fun will soon disappear vs £7 for a box of 50 .22lr!
.22lr will be much quieter allowing second shots, and not alarming others.
