Looking for experience/part-time work.

Hello all,

I'm a relative amateur looking to re-train as a Stalker/Guide/Ranger of some sort in the future.

I've been out the past few seasons and got a good few hinds. I also passed my DSC 1 in February and got my FAC in April.

My fiance and I are looking to move out west to the Islands at the start of next year and I'd love to get the next six months of experience so I can apply for some Stalking/Deer Management jobs with confidence in January coming.

Currently, Edinburgh based and have commitments in the city until the new year.

Any help is much appreciated

Best

Look for a ghillie position or sign up to 'volounteer'.

Sadly, experience and knowledge in the private estate deer world comes second to who you know/who your family are.

Don't let yourself be convinced to do anything illegal for the promise of a position. But be prepared to do work not in the job decription.

I'd say a college course at HNC level would be a good avenue to pursue.

FLS has advertised Ranger Apprenticeships previously, also NatureScot for students to be based on their NNR's (not happening this year, sadly).

Sadly a lot of the stuff that might help might cost you quite a bit. DSC2, Quad/ATV tickets, Chainsaw ticket etc.

Very best of luck,

David.
