Most underrated calibre

Echoing a couple already said

25.06 which has never really caught on in the UK. If I could only keep on gun it would be this. It's capable of rediculous range vermin kills and has been faultless on Deer through to Fallow for me with 100gr Nosler BT's.

.303 British. How did this ever fall out of fashion in the UK? I did a service rifle comp a couple of weeks ago and even at 300 yards with iron sights in an 80 year old rifle they were just slotting in. I would just redesign the case to be rimless to be the perfect cartridge.

Don't really understand how the .17 HMR has become so maligned on here. It's such an easy calibre to head shoot rabbits at 100+ metres with. Madly flat shooting out to 120m.
Would agree with you on 25-06 , a fine all rounder that has never really become 'fashionable '
HMR is a good little round but there are those that refuse to accept it is affected by wind (more than .22lr) and all the problems with split cases has dented confidence imo.
Only ever shot .303 as a cadet - but some good memories linger , i don't know why it has not carried on as a popular round - lack of offerings from the rifle manufacturers in sporting rifles possibly ?

Well bad workmen are apt to blame their tools Jamross.

Cracking bunny gun. Have previously said it is unsuitable for fox and stick by that. Most people need more margin for error than I would be comfortable with. Centerfire on fox allows for that.

I have to agree, i have taken thousands of bunnies and corvids with my 17s over the years. and at a last count i have taken about 40 charlies over the years with one too, niver had many problems with it in the wind,

then again if i make a bad shot its not the rifles fault.

243WSSM does everything a 243 does but with 3" shorter barrel, almost the size ofthe moddy you put on.

presumably on somebody else's farm? Suggest posters remember which side their bread is buttered before slating farmers. No farmers = no food and nowhere for you and the rest of us to go shooting. Refer to country file post.

I have more land now than I can shake a stick at, and my farms that I shoot are all minted, and some of the farmers are the ones who have said so in the past,

It would apper my bread is buttered on both sides as most of my bunny bashings done on golf courses.

Do you want to to adopt me...?

I'm pretty much house trained, but happy to camp out in my bivvi bag if that makes the decision any easier :-D

Cheers

Hi Iain

Its very sad that im giving up shooting in some ways (deer stalking has gone first), as i have just been taken on in a very nice place with 5,000 acres and my old shoots still to hand total about another 1200 i have gave some of my stalking to shooting buddies who have taken it with open arms, i have just last week been offered as much shooting on the estate as i wish from the head keeper (who was on holiday until friday ). so i will try and hold onto at least 1 rifle, be that the 20 tac/222, i have seen a few bunnies here outside my office, but have been told there are far more on the other side of the estate. ;) and the fox's are more than plentiful.

lets hope the plan all falls into place and i can hold a rifle here out of the wifes way. ;) i don't think her xray vision can see this far.
