Mud Tyres for a Freelander I?

Those look good. I'd assumed 215s would give me more grip but maybe it's more useful to have the extra height of 80s over 75s. (It seems I have to have one or the other.) Is width or height more important, do you think?

Some times the wider tyres skate about and don't cut into the ground like a narrower tyre would, look at the width of the tyres on a old Landy. The 80 gives you a bit more ground clearance + a softer ride due to the shock absorbing of the tyre.

Forgive the question, but is this a bit of an old chestnut for 4x4 buffs? A sort of .177 vs. .22 question?

In my innocence it strikes me that having a tyre that "cuts in" might negate the benefit of "more ground clearance". Shock absorbing sounds good though!

If you are 'floating' on top of the mud - you are not going to get much traction , hence military landrovers have relatively skinny tyres (also not subject to fashion or bothered what the tyres look like .....) , most tyres pick up mud - but thats actually what you need to get going - its shedding the mud thats the important bit .
Rarely need true mud plugging ability on my ground as the tracks are reasonable - but good wet grass performance is very useful , i run my TD4 freelander on Uniroyal Rallye 4x4 street's , standard size , surprisingly good on wet grass - even slopes , i have another set of rims with Pirelli Skorpion ST M&S for when the roads are covered , again not a good mud plugger but good on ice / snow .Used to run Series's 1's on military rims / tyres ,landrangers from memory , would drive me out of a bog if required
PS.If they list the tyres you have chosen try Black Circles - good on price and use local franchise fitting places

We have them on an L200 and a lot of folk round here seem to go for them (probably because they see a few folk running them more than them being any better than anything else!)

Had them on since the start of the grouse season and they seem good. Bit more noise than an A/T and have to be a bit careful in the wet but nothing too bad.

Off road they seem good, not been stuck yet but there again it is yet to get into the bad wearer this winter.

I would recommend them as easily as BFG Muds etc.
