New Forest Poacher Convictions

The words "typical lurcher scum" in my eyes is categorising people who own lurchers, not a couple of individuals who bring running dogs into a bad light
Indeed. Some of the most upstanding members of this site are lurcher men. @Smellydog, to name but one. I've met the fellow, and I most certainly wouldn't describe him as "scum". A more likeable chap you'd struggle to find. Yet there are some on here who would tar him with that brush simply by virtue of the dog he owns.
(Lovely photo in post #1 of the linked thread).

so your fine with the other generalisations but mine comes across as too far?
can we agree, they are scum and owned lurchers?

I'll leave it there mate, I kept and run lurchers for the last 55 year and met and run dogs with a lot of very well known and influential people who I would certainly not class as "scum". There no need for me to fight the corner of lurcher owner against small minded people.
Thank you

Much as I greatly appreciate your choice of Roger Mellie - The man on the Telly (who says "b0ll0cks") as an avatar, he's actually a satirical comic character and not supposed to be a role model.
But he is though....... along with Sid the sexist and Terry FuXkwit......The Bacons are absolutely an inspiration along with Raffles the gentleman thug  ;)

Your quote just showed me who was posting lol

Just use the ignore button dude, place is much more pleasant without the likes of him.

This thread is full of folk on my list hahaha

Well, this has certainly been an interesting thread to read as an American...

WRT the OP, these men are not poachers, most likely/probably sociopaths more than anything else. Animal cruelty is a key sign of sociopaths.

As to the death penalty, in States where it is actually swift (within a couple years of sentencing), it seems to work well at deterring the more egregious crimes. My family is from Texas, and as the joke goes "Some states have the death penalty, but Texas not only has it, they have an express lane for it. If you kill someone in Texas, they gonna kill you back." <shrug> Seems to work where it's actually enforced, and not just a way for people to languish another 20 years, with appeal after appeal, hoping to stay the executioners needle, so they can die of old age. BLUF: Every species needs culling of some type, for the population to remain healthy.

As to the racial comments based on the gypsies...it is interesting to see how you guys grapple with your own problems of a known group that contributes to an unnaturally high percentage of violent crime. When is it racist, versus when is it just looking at the numbers and categorizing a high probability of a known threat (which is what we evolved to do; calculate threats)? That's really the question. The cry of racism is disingenuous, and avoids the discussion of what they data implies. It's a very narrow line to walk. Thomas Sowell wrote an interesting piece on this very topic in his book "Ever Wonder Why?" about our own issues with inner city people of color, which was quite eye opening, coming from a black man, born in the Jim Crow south. Regardless, it is a complex issue, that has very little do do with race or creed. Has everything to do with culture.

As to the dogs...I have no comment, since that is clearly a cultural thing, that I honestly don't understand.

The dog question within the travelling community is a cultural thing. It has progressed from traditional travelling people who kept running dogs to assist in catching their food back in the day often with the permission of the land owners they were working for. As there is in all walks of life there are some who take things to the next level and kick the box out of it and alienate the majority of the minority.
Skip forward to the last few decades and we do not really have a travelling community coming around year in year out helping with seasonal work, instead we have inherited the social undesirables from Ireland who have settled across the UK claiming their status as travellers.
Keeping with the dog theme they run their dogs on any game mostly at night using vehicles and lamps to course. Not for food but for large sums of money in the form of high stakes betting. This is not just amongst themselves but to quote from information directly from the police, that the live streaming of illegal coursing and illegal online betting is now a multi million pound business across the globe. It is now up there along with organised and serious crime. High profile criminals have been arrested while out hare coursing. It has become a fashionable blood sport along side dog fighting unlicensed boxing favoured by the criminal underworld. Guy Ritchie didnt just dream up some of the characters in his film.
Traditional hare coursing sadly was outlawed 20 years ago and has left a huge hole in traditional hunting and country sports. I grew up with traditional dog men and was devastated to see it abolished. Lurcher scum has now become a term used by a lot of people who suffer the consequences of illegal coursing which often leads to large amounts of damage to property and more and more incidents of violence of any one who gets in their way. Some of the older traditional dog men take the slur to heart but I think a lot of people know that it is not directed at them.
Traditional travellers were mostly good people but sadly they are now the minority amongst a minority.
Others may disagree with my post but this is just my opinion of how I currently see things and how it affects the rural community of where I live.

Hope it sheds some light on the issue and helps you to form an opinion chap

No dogs in this clip but you get idea

It’s not the LGBTQ or Black Lives Matter but they do occasionally sell clothes pegs and do some quality tarmacing and are all qualified tree surgeons.
I’ll let you keep guessing
I don't disagree that they are despicable human beings, that said they are not of the community you have alluded to. The surname is wrong.

It's entirely immaterial whether these two bottom feeders are from a certain community or not, own lurchers, aren't well educated, don't pay taxes, or whatever else they are like. They should be judged by their actions.

They have inflicted terrible cruelty and unspeakable pain on sentient beings, the like of which I really don't want to repeat in this post. It is on that alone they should be judged and sentenced. Whether the sentence is correct, of course is another matter entirely.
