Guys
what would be the best all round calibre for all species of uk deer i’m running a 222, 243, 6.5 x 55 and 308 at the moment

will keep the 222. but possibly looking to go to one calibre for all and as it’s looming 🙄 and will shoot well with copper

cheers

6mm/6.5 Creedmoor or PRC

Both designed to shoot either good lead bullets or copper ones (correct twist) without a heavy compromise in bullet design (either light for calibre or £1-2 per pill :scared:) , Hornady ammo usually shoots well and not too dear either.

If a gunshop does not stock 6.5 Creedmoor, it's not worth going to.

7 or even 300 PRC if you want to shoot silly distances.

308

Works better then most others with a short 18-20’’ barrel and suppressor.

130 TTSX on small game (actually most game) and 168TTSX on larger or boar.

The 168 grain opens up easier on lower impact velocites then either 150 & 165 grain according to Barnes.

I'm (theoretically) a 'one rifle' deer stalker ? Everything including muntjac and Roe deer, have been shot with a 0.308 Winchester Model 30. It's presently languishing with Uncle Robert at Fulton's in Bisley Camp, Surrey. I hope next Autumn to say "Good Night" or "Good morning" to my first Wild boar ? Let's see what happens. I have a 0.22 LR CZ 'bunny gun' (not legal for deer) but you can shoot "Running Boar" moving targets at BSRC Bisley - best way to do this is to join a BSRC - affiliated club like Leatherhead R.C.

Yep done a bit at the BSRC on the boar / deer targets pretty good bit of kit there, never had the chance (yet) at running boar live but I live in hope with .308

Hahaha
Not bored yet Tim only packed up today 🤣. ( I’m telling Marg what you said about what you said about me interfering with her Xmas routine ). On second thoughts I’d better not as It could have serious consequences to me getting out after the hospital visit tomorrow I've got Duck, Rabbit and Fox shooting to catch up on between Xmas and New year 🤣🤣🤣

I was just having a tidy up in the ammo safe and every one of the 6 shelves are stacked out with different ammunition, I use them all but that got me thinking of a single calibre, i wouldn't be adjusting the 22LR, WMR ,22 Hornet, 204 or the 222 just looking at a single deer calibre the 243 as a deer / foxing rifle is fantastic that is a keeper, 6.5 is a good all rounder as Is the 308

The inevitable lead ban and the price of said ammunition does give way to economics somewhere along the way
