Overseas Forms

An interesting one ref renewal of wife's certificate renewal. Staff in firearms has said she needs to fill in an "Overseas Form", as she was born outside the UK. Been here for 35 years and held a certificate for something like 32 years :-| They'll be getting a sharp reply

Again, putting red tape and hoops in place to make it more difficult.

Married to someone born here, 35 years in country, a naturalised citizen by all accounts and as you say already a licence holder! This isn't a grant, it's a renewal!

My understanding is that you only have to be a UK resident to hold an FAC. No requirement fir you to be born in the UK or to hold UK nationality.

I have held an FAC for 30 years, a Shotgun certificate for 40 and lived in the UK for 50 years, but was born outside the UK.

And I'll not go into detail, but for probably 30 of those years, she's represented Britain all around the world and still does  Firearms will be asked in the morning if it's required legally

I guess that there'll be plenty of people asked for "letters of good conduct" from their country of birth :-| She can only get one from her Mum, sister or mad Auntie

Another 'make it up as you go along' piece of nonsense. I was born in Germany and moved to the UK in 1984. It's never even been mentioned during grant or renewals

Absolute garbage that is ! On purpose or by intent ? who cares anyhow it needs an official complaint to the head of department with a CC to the chief constable perhaps at the same time.
Some folks in these departments are great but recruitment and training is obviously very poor / lacking

Reply gone back.....not doing it  Asked if legally obliged to do so and if the form is an internal one or a home office form. I think someone wants to be MI two and a half

Were you a forces brat?

I forget the detail but from memory forces and FCO etc. kids born overseas don’t count as ‘born abroad’ for immigration/documentation purposes, so it probably wouldn’t flag.

As to the original problem, hopefully it was just a staff member with the wrong end of the stick!

So im a UK resident but not a UK national. The licensing authority had to request a background check from my home country before they could process my Shotgun certificate, but I dont ever recall filling out an 'overseas form'. They never asked me for this when I applied for my FAC either. For a renewal after this many years seems ridiculous and stinks of someone not knowing what they are doing. I would respectfully push back. Ask for specific lawful requirements.

You're right. It would've been classed as Crown Property so wouldn't be an issue.
