Pard 007 SP2 4k

Well this week I had my new Pard Sp 2 delivered from Pard UK bought on Amazon. Still having the original model sp with the vcsel illuminator I took both out for a comparison. Both models were attached to an element optics helix 6-24 second focal plane scope on separate rifles, viewing a range of targets and animals from 100-300 yards. In short the original was infinitely better, when using the built in illuminator the new model with the LED just didn’t have the power, the image was grainy and dull. I was easily able to see a fox at 300 yards with the original while with the sp2 I could identify but would not have been able to take the shot. In comparison of field of view the original has an optical mag of x4 while the sp2 is x2.2 I struggled to see much of a difference even side by side. The sp2 did have a wider field of view but not as significant as I would have imagined. All these comparisons were done with the on board illuminator as I personally prefer to just use the unit itself, less bulky and one less button to press while marching over the fields.
So I sent the new one back, it’s was very capable within 150m but when compared the the original the image was just so much poorer even with the 4k screen. At the end of the day you can’t shoot what you can’t see.
Hope this helps
Best regards
Gareth

Is this the vscel or or the LED? I found the led very underwhelming when put side by side with my original so model with the original laser illuminator
At this current time, any Pard with a VCSEL fitted and sold new in the UK, is bypassing the Trading Standards regulation that was put in place on Pard products via SGC and Pard, so you could earn a wedge from it, if you get one !!

So any bought in the uk will have the LED fitted? I got my original of you when they first came out, I also didn’t like the 10mm increased in eye relief it was just enough to make using the new model uncomfortable

Pard UK, i.e Pards offical UK products are only supply with LED now due to the Trading Standard implications applied to them.. any that do not have these fitted are bypassing this and not coming from the official channels that have been put in place.

Thanks for the information. Good job I didn’t order one, don’t want an LED. The performance I’m getting from the 4K with my Blade is brilliant so I’ll stick with that.

Hi @Drew 3 do you have any footage using the element helix 2-16 with the 007 4K? I already have the pard and blade and have been considering that scope. Thanks

Hi, don't really do video's and all that but i have used the pard with plenty of scopes from cheep Hawke's, Sightron etc and this Helix is the one i would recommend most. The fine reticle is bumped up 2.1x on lowest digital mag, so 4.2 min mag, (where mine stays and i use the scope zoom) with the 4k, and on some scopes it can make the reticle a bit heavy, so that is a major factor when choosing a scope and this one is perfect. I might even buy another for the .223.

Thanks for your reply. I use a Alpex 4K at the moment but I don’t always fully trust it like I do a day scope. Does the pard hold its own against the Alpex?

I know what you mean. I also had an Alpex 4k lrf and yes I am as happy with the Pard 4k. Same situation really, see a fox, press the standby on button, click on the IR torch take the shot. Only difference is you know your scope is perfectly zeroed and not a digital reticle that can wonder, as plenty of people have found. The main advantage of the Alpex is last light clarity without the need for IR. When you need it, just click it on! Picture quality just as good.

Hi Drew, I have an old Pard 007 that I run behind a Delta Titanium scope, and I'm happy enough with it. I was wondering if the newer Pard 4 K would offer a better picture for me? Would you say it might?
I like an add-on for the same reason as you, you know your scope is not going to lose zero.
I'd like another unit, and if the 4k is an upgrade, i'd go for that.
What's your thought sir?

Easy, I’ve still got one of The first 12mm 007A’s. Still working great and I use it on my .22 lr and air rifle. The new 4k has a better, sharper picture and generally just a better unit all round.

I have one of the new 4k lrf…. Great bit of kit apart from the one inherent fault of all the pard add ons …. Please make us one pard that has a 1x magnification in the unit….. we all have scopes with enough mag already in them….. it’s dam near impossible to find a80 yard fox in the narrow field of view. Further away the fox is the better/easier it becomes

It ends up on them all at some point… lowest base scope I have is a 4x
Thanks.
I've just Googled the 4k, I think they are 2x mag, so my 2.5 x 15 x 56mm would bring it up to 5 x 30 x 56mm :-|, not ideal I suppose, considering 80% of my foxes are 100 - 130 yarders.
