Perfect rimfire scope magnification?

I practice shooting off sticks and out of hand daily

I find when shooting my 10 22 out of hand at a 5 inch gong at 100m, it is easier to hit said gong using a fixed 9 power (less percieved movement)

On the other hand for shooting the whiskers off a knat from a stable platform (like sticks), I much prefer 16 power

I have a little 3-9 Leupold on my cz 17 and it’s great. Regularly shooting at 150’ish, furthest shot I’ve ranged is 261yds

3-9 x 56 illuminated is brilliant - wind it up when looking at a target wind it back for low light and illumination

Better the glass the better it is

I’ve got a 2.5 - 10 x 56 illuminated Zenith on my 22 it’s fantastic for day use I keep it at 2.5 mostly and a photon for night, I don’t have to change the scope over to NV until dark on the Blaser, all on QD mounts - get what suits your shooting

Scope magnification depends on the application. Same for rimfire as with any of the centrefire applications.

I have three rimfires. A fixed 4x plex reticle on an old but accurate single shot for head shooting stationary possums out of trees at night, at 25m max. A 3-9x plex reticle on a 10/22 for typical rough shooting of bunnies and hares. A 4-18x on a CZ455 for longer range bunnies and pest birds like magpies from a rest, out to 130-140m+, with the majority shot between 60-90m. The latter has a detailed BDC reticle as well as ballistic turrets. I use it mostly on 10x which is what the reticle is calibrated for, but I regularly use it on 18x when picking bunny heads out of long grass at whatever range, or when dialling up for long shots.

Each scope suits its job to a tee. If you want a generalist scope that you can comfortably use to 100m+ (more like 125-130m on a properly accurate rifle) then a good 4-12x is a good choice.

Horses for courses, try them all and find with round suits your barrel best. I've had identical rifles in the past and neither liked the same ammo..!!
