Primers 223

I have always used federal small rifle gold match primers for sierra 52g in 223.

The problem seems to actually getting some. You may have to take what you can get that suits a small rifle 223 cartridge.

Yes had to settle for 200 CCI primers £16

I’ve used CCI BR4, 450, 400 and Fed 205m in a foxing .223 rifle couldn’t tell any noticeable difference in any of them. For a target rifle squeezing every drop of accuracy out of it they may make a difference.

With the distinct lack of supply and variety, it will likely come down to whatever you can get hold of at the moment.

Pretty much any small rifle primer will work. Buy a good quantity at a time.

Best practice says that you should work up a load any time you change a component. Whether you do is entirely up to you. If you running on the ragged edges of pressure you probably ought to.

Will a change in primer make any difference. It might or it might not, and again very much depends on you. Are you reloading to win major competitions at long range. Or are you reloading to keep the costs down and allow you to shoot more.

I have been using CCI small rifle in my 223. I can’t get these anymore but have a few hundred RWS for my next batch of reloads. I doubt I will notice much difference, and probably none if I did a truly scientific statistical analysis on it all.

But I expect they will go bang, bullet will go close enough to point of aim and crows, foxes and Roe Deer won’t be happy, and gongs will go clang:)

223 may well need a thicker cup, so remington 7.5 or cci 450.

Remington 6.5 states not for 223.
Any SRP will work (sans the Rem 6 1/2's). Even then, I have used 6 1/2's without issue. I think the concern is when they are run through an AR. That floating firing pin has been known (rarely, but known) to slam fire 6 1/2's before. In a bolt action rifle, you would be fine however.
