PSV14 old hat? Or worth keeping?

I have currently on my 223 a psv14 on the back of a nightforce scope. In terms of performance it’s outstanding and has accounted for many foxes out to some good long ranges. Firstly do these night vision add on’s still have a value and are the new digital scopes as versatile as a day scope/night vision add on??

Due to the war in Ukraine, these units fetch very high prices online. They all end up there. You’d be surprised what you will get for it

I assume Gen 2 green

Who is the maker?

If I were so fortunate as to have purchased one when they were affordable I certainly wouldn't be thinking of ever getting rid of it, I know three chaps that use them and the image is fantastic, I'm envious every time I use their kit.
The price has skyrocketed over the last three years.... But if you want to swap it for my Pard 007/Delta Titanium setup just message me

What would you expect such a unit to fetch online? And where would you sell one?

As you seem to have VCSEL laser on, PVS-14 is still king of the hill when talking about versatility, picture quality and distance.

On the other side those combos are cumbersome like you said, and a bit fragile (both physically and you must take care not to misuse the tube). There's also several things you need to control (but they give you the flexibility):

- scope mag
- scope parallax
- VCSEL power
- VCSEL beam
- PVS-14 focus
- PVS-14 gain

Just a lump to carry around!!
Mount a Dark Engine BLADE on the picatinny section of your DSA and the ergonomics will be completely transformed. You won't even notice you have an IR mounted and all the controls will be to hand.

You'll also have proper and easy control of the power.

The PVS14 lens doesn't properly match the output of the scope so around 50% of the tube is in darkness. This means the ABC can't work properly to protect the tube and if you overdo the illumination you end up with a dark centre to the tube where the phosphor wears.

Cheers

As a rule I always run my IR on its widest beam and then turn the Psv down to minimum brightness enough to identify and shoot! As I’ve currently got the rifle set up a night rifle it limits it use and I’d like my lad to use it for the odd munty hence my predicament. After listening to everyone’s thoughts I’m not sure what to do with it, it might just have to sit in the cupboard with all my spare ir iluninators😂😂. I think I’m going go with an alpex 4k for the moment at least!!

Hi Dave.
A few years ago (before the vcsel lasers) i had a pvs14 pinnical, these were amongst the best at that time, when i moved on to a Drone pro i sold it.
Pvs 14's, Archers are still good but there not perfect, and should the tube go there not economical to repair so scrap
I've had lots of different n/v's over the years, and at the moment the Alpex 4k lrf is just so good IMO it just de values most other n/v's and some top end low light scopes.
If you can get a price for it your happy with, i would sell it.

Dave (warbucks)

One of my mates uses the unit on a night force and it out strips any others I’ve used, the shooting distance brilliant-including thermal
You will be hard pushed to replace it based on performance
Set it up right is the key
Good luck
Phil
