Question on custom 223 barrels

my next barrell will probably be a lothar walther, ive had two one of which was 22.250 which finaly gave up the ghost after 3400 rounds, and a heavy barreled 223 which i wish i,d never sold, bs

Had a good chat with Alan Maughan on Friday about a custom barrel for my 223. Going for a 25” medium heavy barrel in 1/8 twist to stabilise 77gr TMK’s.

Hoping to send it off next week. Alan uses
Bartlein, Krieger or Brux barrels. Not sure which to go for so left in his hands. Any feedback appreciated. All sound good.

Disappointingly, it seems that the 77gr TMK’s are widely out of stock. Looks like it’s not just the 39gr Blitz that I’ll be struggling with for my 204. Not sure what’s going on with Sierra.

Any other 77gr TMK alternatives out there? Does anyone use the 75gr A-Max?

Don't think you will go wrong with any of them . I went for a Krieger and have no complaints.

Well, posted the rifle off to Alan today and asked him to add a Berzerk stock that he had in second hand too. Happy days.

Super happy with how this turned out. 77TMK’s shooting well out to just under 600 yards today. Crows shot out to 322 yards. Seem to expand well enough. Based on drop, estimating 2,790fps with Vhit N140.

Loaded up some 53gr V-Max with N135 and really happy with the groups using 25.7gr. Probably as well as I could’ve shot today off the bipod.

What a versatile cartridge the 223 is in 1/8 twist

Could it be that the yank bullet producers have heard about the UK possibly banning lead ammo and are cutting down on sending them here?
I'd like to swap out all my 223 bullets for 63grn Sierra Varminters, but I doubt anyone on here has any.

Fortunately managed to get hold of 400 so that’ll do for a little while until supplies pick up again

No offense, but I don't think Yank bullet producers would worry about your possibly banning lead ammo.
By the way, how many years have passed and how much money had been spent on a ban that doesn't exist? Seems like a self fulfilling prophesy to me. Soon they won't need to ban lead. The threat will have been enough. ~Muir

I’ve a custom .223 fitted with a Bartlein in 1 in 8. It shoots very well with 77g TMK, or SMK for that matter, but I prefer 75g Amax. They all shoot very well over N140, but bullet supply is the current difficulty though.
