Raising funds for Cancer Research

Hi All,

Many thanks to all that have donated lots and those that have bid on them as well as to all that have donated on my JustGiving page.

Here's a quick update as you know I set a target of £900 on my JustGiving Page and I'm 57% there and if members take up Lateral's challenge we are almost 87% of the way to £600 (many thanks for your challenge Lateral once we get to £600 he will donate an extra £400) not a long way to go as were only £80 short of Lateral’s challenge!

I would like to thank Bandit for his generous offer – instead of offering an auction lot he is offering a prize (an am or pm stalk for a cull roe buck or possibly a munty) to be drawn from all the ones who just donate to the just giving page. Currently there are only 18 people eligible for this prize so please donate on my JustGiving page!

Just paid the £40 to get to 600.
Good luck,Ken.

Well done Ken, and the other 19 people who were generous enough to donate to Fred's Justgiving page. I've added to the total, which now stands at £1000.00.

And well done to all the eventual auction lot winners.

To the rest of you.

I'm at a loss to what sort of people, people who claim to be a "community", won't make a donation, however small, even a £1.00, if that's what you can afford. You don't have to be embarrassed, do it anonymously. There is no excuse.

One day, someone you know, a spouse, your child, a family member, a friend, will be diagnosed with cancer. FACT.

If you're really lucky, it will be one of the variants that the research lab's, and charities such as Cancer Research UK, have found a cure for. You won't want to think about the alternative !

When this happens to you, and it will, just remember you were too lazy, too selfish, or just too damn tight to give SOMETHING, however small, that may just have helped save their lives. LIVE WITH THAT GUILT !

Please continue to make a contribution, however small, it all helps.

What a generous gesture, and also some very incisive, truthful comments :thumb:

One wonders what the reaction would be if it was a free stalk for anyone. I bet mine and the others inbox would be busted.

Well said Sir, and what an excellent gesture on your part. There are still good folk in this land, and very well done to all those who gave the auction lots.

Hi All,

Many thanks to all that have donated lots and those that have bid on them as well as to all that have donated on my JustGiving page.

Here's a quick update: as you know I set a target of £900 on my JustGiving Page. We as a stalking community have now raised a total £1,230 PLEASE KEEP DONATING HOWEVER SMALL!!

I would like to thank Bandit for his generous offer – instead of offering an auction lot he is offering a prize (an am or pm stalk for a cull roe buck or possibly a munty) to be drawn from all the ones who just donate to the just giving page. Currently there are only 27 people eligible for this prize so please donate on my JustGiving page (some of whom have requested for various reasons not to be included in the draw)

Can I also ask that you carry on bidding on these generous lots as all monies raised will go to Cancer Research UK

£200 on lot 6.
Since I’m no longer winning lot6 ( the muntjac stalk) I’ve made a small donation to the cause.
I thought it was going to take ages and require PayPal or VerifiedbyVisa but no, it only took about one minute, paid by card, very easy. Good luck everyone!

As I suspected, the best way to raise money from this lot, is to offer them something in return

I'm not in a position to offer stalking, but there are loads of you who can, and for a very good cause. Surely there are others, that can offer some other auction lots, to make a contribution ???

I think you might find that the carrots are more productive than sticks with this kind of thing. Nobody wants to donate money when they’re being told that they are pathetic and that they should be ashamed of themselves. Not everyone is in a financial position to make a donation or bid for the auction lots. There are plenty of charities asking for money all of the time and people can’t give money to all of them. I think that the auction is a great way to raise money.

I for one will not be donating.... although at the outset it was my intention to donate.
My reason for my now stance is the comments made by one member on this thread.
I like many have lost loved ones to this horrible illness and have many times in the past willingly given money to cancer charities and will continue to do so in the future. I also have a standing order set which gives money to another charity on a monthly basis..
However I strongly recommend lateral stops posting such vial character assassination posts before others feel the same as myself..
To the original poster I genuinely wish you all the best in your recovery, stay strong and pull through the other side.
Kindest regards
Jimmy

I agree. I shall not donate and I withdraw my bid. This has become unpleasant. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to the original poster. You will be in my prayers.

Kind regards,

Carl

I can only speak for myself and I will not generalise. I have been keeping a close eye on this thread as I truly feel for Fred (And anyone else in his position) and have a hell of a lot of respect for what he is doing. I also have a total respect for those that have donated the stalks etc. However I do have to say that I think those that are saying that the members who have not yet donated are pathetic and should be ashamed of their selves and need a kick up the a**e are well out of order.
Please remember that some might not be in as strong a financial position as others or may have already tightly budgeted for the month before before making these comments guys!

Having had my father recently go through this - Bushpig stay strong and I wish you all the best.

£300 bid for lot 1 with Malcolm

Ok the comments are not required on this site please, some of which I have now removed.

For those that need to know Fred (Bushpig) contacted me after I offered to raise money for his cause by giving some stalking away. I will say that our telephone conversation was quite a long one and on both sides an emotional one. That's all I will say, if Fred wants to extend this I will leave it up to him.

However people not donating because someone has made several remarks is NOT what I expect. At the end of the day we have all had or seen experiences of this disease. We all donate time or money in many ways to support charities, but this one affects us all.

I am slightly annoyed that anyone is making ANY remarks on this thread regarding giving or not. Any further uncalled for remarks will be removed. I also think those that have done so owe Bushpig an apology.
