Reality check, used gun value.

Yep, always makes me chuckle! Why would anyone keep a rifle and hardly use it? Oh, but it's only had 50 rounds through it, honest :fib:!

What a load of tripe, sorry but I have a number of rifles that have hardly any use at all, one particular one will be lucky to have had 50 rounds through it over the past 5 years! I stored all my rifles for almost 3 years while living away so the round count is low. I am no longer stalking deer so most of them are used for lamping and sometimes don't get fired! also, I think some people down south forget that not everywhere in the country has a good shooting range where people can rattle off hundreds of rounds per visit, where I am we zero every now and then to check the rifle but it wouldn't be a lot of rounds at all, my main concern is the rifles sitting static for long lengths of time and trying to make sure the moisture doesn't get to them!

Gixer

this is very true, my shots fired are nearly all at deer, I only ever throw them down range if I have knocked the scope or have doubts, but then it’ll be as few as possible, 3-5 ideally. I reckon my rifle sees a maximum of 50 rounds a year tops. And like you say, sitting idle in the cabinet is more of a concern as that’s when things happen you can’t see...

My Brother has two rifle with less than 50 shots fired in 30 years, a pair of shotguns that haven't fired a shot in 40!
He just wont sell.

I would never buy any rifle that has had any enhancements done. The few on here that have tons of kit for sale are really admitting they have made many bad purchases and want to offload their mistakes to the hard of learning. Like the Rolling Stones they keep coming back with more bad buys after retiring due to ill health and poverty?

Conversely a mate of mine has just bought a used semi custom rifle with a 500 round count and after delivery found it's short several inches of rifling at the throat! The problem in this country is that it can be very difficult to view a rifle prior to purchase and you are dependent on the honesty of the seller , a few cases like the above and is anyone surprised there are sceptics about?

Depends entirely on the driver for selling

I work on the principle that if something is not selling then either the price is wrong or the target customer doesn't know its for sale!

I wouldn’t say they have made bad purchases, but, I’ve found from many experiences (I’m a slow learner) that you can have all the bells and whistles, but you don’t shoot anymore deer than your mate with a bog standard factory gun, and when you come to sell a factory rifles sells easier and loses less money.

I have noticed that many $1000`s dollar custom build rifles here are battling to get half of their build price in a re sale.

I traded cash and hunting for this unfired rifle and way way off the build price.
