Rem 700 Triggers

No

He spent an hour adjusting the trigger to be safe in operation with the brief to lighten the trigger as far as safe to do so

The trigger in question failed drop test at 2.5 lbs so was ajusted to a safe 3.5 lb with proper sear engagement , overtravel.

By all means ajust the trigger more - maybe Jh83 will send it you to do so - but you take responsibility for the concequences of failure shoukd that occur
So no stone work. That's why it didn't improve. Mine were perfectly safe to the bump test conducted by an also well known gun smith now departed.
If the customer only asked for adjustments then that's what he got. If he went to a smith and asked for the trigger to be worked on with a goal then he didn't get what he wanted.

I will interject at this point, Ronin has made me a rifle and done work for me on all sorts in the past and his work is absolutely top drawer, he’s made umpteen of my mates rifles and they are all real tack drivers. If he said that’s all he could get out of it safely then that to me is beyond question (for me anyway). In any event I’m after something a little more refined so it’s a moot point, the rifle has a lovely fluted benchmark barrel and a mcmillan stock so deserves a top notch trigger.

Keep the advice coming chaps it’s really appreciated! 🙏

Ronin's work was/is never in question.

Just buy the triggertech diamond 2 stage then.
I doubt you'll get anything better

Don’t recall uou being present in the discussion regarding the work conducted, and client requests, the price (which was nil) or how far to go with it

However, apparantly you know best and are happy to comment on those factors mentioned above

👏

I think I've blown something up your nose🤔.

The standard Remington triggers can be improved period, there is no need to run off and purchase an after market unit.
The OP implied that his chap couldn't help with the original unit, that I didn't understand or accept, possibly leading me to assume wrongly.
As this is a format for open discussion and opinion sharing then yes, I am extremely happy to contribute. Also, whilst I was not present to private conversations with regard to this trigger in question I and others were given a vague outline by the original poster. Maybe you need to put him right also!

Now if that's still not good enough go and report me because I really really could not give a flying fig.
Good evening.

+1 for the trigger tech special 2 stage. I personally can't see the need to go lighter. Personal choice i guess. You can also get in with a flat shoe.

Triggertech, everything else is old technology now.
Old tech? Word Marmite comes to mind...

To OP and others, if you consider Triggertech do yourself a favor and try to get some time behind one of their triggers. Especially if you've been shooting a long time and developed "taste" for certain kind of trigger. Personally I'd go (and have gone) Triggertech only if there are no other reasonably priced / available options. And given the price of Triggertech, that means there is lots of other options most of the time.

They are not bad, but they are different / weird.

had ms for 30 years i can still faintly touch it without going off been shooting for 65 years for precise shooting cant beat a light trigger.

I have an XMark pro set at for a nice crisp 3lb pull. I don’t like light triggers. It’s on a par with a Timney.

To polish the mechanism requires time taking it apart, polishing, putting back together and repeating. It can easily take a few hours.

If you are having to pay a gunsmith to do so it’s a toss up between paying £200 to £300 for a drop in trigger such as timney, or paying for Remington trigger to be polished and fettled.

A lot also depends on personal preference and trigger technique. I use a squeeze of my whole hand - akin to giving a firm hand shake. Others use a very light hold and the lightest of touches on the trigger.
