And don't forget, many GPs aren't even members of the BMA
Probably because the Memorandum of Understanding really means that the Doctor
Does make you wonder what use it actually is.
- Doesn't have to engage.
- Doesn't have to put the marker on the system, the word used is "encouraged"
- Doesn't actually have to pay any regard to the marker, if they so choose.
- HO/Police will have absolutely no comeback anyways.
Mine was originally from back to 2012. They wouldn't accept that, and requested either 30 years, or from birth. So had to get it re-done to state they went through paper records.Send an email to gp formally requesting an electronic copy of your ENTIRE file INCLUDING notes. They should send you a pdf of your file. Send that on to whoever you choose to complete your application...shotgun medical in my case...they have all they need unless a licencing team decide to make up more rules as they go along.
This where BASC needs to step up to the plate...gp proforma isn't a legal requirement but we as holders understand the request, so why don't the major bodies such as BASC lobby to have a consistent timescale that gp's MUST complete...5yrs, 10yrs, or whatever! 5 years makes sense as it will cover a certificates history since last renewal....or do licencing teams keep our records historically??? In the event of a new licence application then yes go for the whole file of medical background, after this every 5 years should only be needed.
I'm sick of hearing about licensing teams making up their own boundaries, terms, requirements or 'expectations' many of which are not legislative and yet bodies like BASC just bend over and take it without fighting for legislation to be adhered to by licencing teams despite us prospective certificate holders adhering to any and every 'rule' out there.
3 months? is that the life of the certificate or how long before the renewal they suggest that you put it in? Everywhere I have looked says the cert lasts for 6 months...Not in Gloucestershire. 3 months.
Makes you wonder what obstacles will be there before us in 4.5 years!I read all this and I just sit there and think next time round I won’t bother, I’ve got 4 1/2 years left, if I haven’t killed enough stuff by then I never will!
100% unfortunately the way things are going I don’t honestly think it’s gonna get easier that’s for certain!Makes you wonder what obstacles will be there before us in 4.5 years!
But you haven't been formally refused so it's just an incomplete application, the easiest way to deal with it is to resubmit with all the information required, which is what they will insist on.BASC firearms reckons they didn't had a valid reason to reject my application and suggested to lodge an appeal...

The minimum period for renewal is 8 weeks from what I’ve read.. I’ll be submitting mine 4 months ahead. I asked one of the FLO’s on Wednesday during my variation and she recommended 4 months in advance, albeit they’re not struggling…A renewal application is time sensitive, i only got 7 weeks before my FAC expires, what if i don't get a new GP proforma on time???
My point is there is no formal appeal for your situation and BASC saying you should do so is bad advice. They should be interceding on your behalf and contacting the Met direct insisting they should accept the application with the proviso that additional elements will be forthcoming. If you run out of time it is ultimately down to you and you have no redress.A renewal application is time sensitive, i only got 7 weeks before my FAC expires, what if i don't get a new GP proforma on time???
All this tells me is that your Dr can't read. They aren't asked for their opinion, or a recommendation. The form simply asks whether you have been diagnosed or treated for a specific list of medical conditions.I speak to my GP a fair bit and he told me he answered that he wasn’t a specialist in mental health and therefore wouldn’t answer their questions. It went through fine.
Looking at possibly putting your firearms into storage with a RFD.I was told by Durham FL that 8 weeks was there cut off point.A renewal application is time sensitive, i only got 7 weeks before my FAC expires, what if i don't get a new GP proforma on time???
I suspect BASC mean that. as there is seems no reason for them to have rejected his applicatioon documents as incomplete, he ask (or appeal to) them to reconsider their decision to insist on his restarting the application process from the beginning. My point is there is no formal appeal for your situation and BASC saying you should do so is bad advice. I’m going to disagree with you, his handwriting may be classic gp but he is no slouch. The form at my last renewal may have been a different one from the current one in use. It certainly was before the Plymouth debacle! All this tells me is that your Dr can't read. They aren't asked for their opinion, or a recommendation. This is why Medcert and Shootcert exist, because numerous Dr's don't appear to be able to read and understand a very simple form.
