Roe Rut 2015!

Well contrary to my comment on the 20th, it does not seem to be on in D&G, I have been out every day since and doses are all unattended!!!??? Weather has Been rubbish and temperature has dropped about 10 degrees since Wed.

try again in the morning!

I tried a little calling yesterday morning in an area with clear signs of Roe rutting activity. What came to the call ? A Muntjac !

Hasn't yet started in mid devon, went out last night with the binos buck's and does completely separate no sign of any activity,

Gloucestershire, Nr. Cheltenham, Saturday the 25th. July 2015 PM:

Having set up on the sticks, wind in my face, cover in my back, I started calling. After some 10 Min I did hear movement very close behind me (10-12 yards maybe!) , as if a deer was trotting away through the high grass, assumingly after having winded me. By the time I had turned 180 degrees it was gone, but some 30 Yards away, where there is a gate, I could hear a sound as if someone was rattling the gate, repeatedly. This went on for some 10-12 minutes, quite unnerving actually, as I couldn't see the (assumed) Roe buck, just heard it trashing the gate with its antlers. Cover was too thick to see it even with the Thermal viewer, and the encounter was over. This spot requires a re-visit in a week or so.
Sightings of a Muntjac doe + follower who spotted me first (Barking!), a fox, and a Muntjac buck (Barking!) , but after I had unloaded the rifle on my way back to the car.
Nothing shot.

Watched a nice buck in a meadow with a doe Saturday evening.
loojs like its started in earnest today in the north west of England

out last night in south hampshire and nothing chasing. A couple of does came to the kid call but no sign of any bucks. No crops off as yet compared to over Dorset way who are cutting so my visibility is limited as all arable standing crops and no meadows.

Didn't get a chance to go out Sat, Sunday on off torrential rain followed by more rain and then v windy temperature plummeted. Didn't see a deer all way down M5 this am.

I was out yesterday Tewkesbury way, we saw one buck, loads of Does with young Kids no Munties, nothing came to the Call

Stalked from Saturday morning with 2 clients, through to Sunday morning with one client in West Sussex. Horrendous drive down on Friday evening, weather was dire, but cleared up on Saturday morning, although still cold and grey skies.

Result was no kill. although I saw 9 does with my client, and Tom saw 12 does and a buck on his side of the estate.

Out again Saturday evening with 3 clients. One in a high seat, saw a 4 point buck trailing a doe, but couldn't quite get a shot. Tom and client took a 6 point buck, and saw a number of does and fawns with no bucks in attendance.

Myself and Chris(client) saw very little a handful of does and finally sat him in a seat where I had seen a big buck for the last 45 minutes of light and he took a mature buck with a badly deformed antler. Not seen that one before either!!

Result was 2 bucks for two outings for two clients. Other client 2 outings and nearly had a shot from the seat.

Not bad for the weather, Sunday morning was cold and windy and not much moving. Nothing coming to the call, and it looks as though we will see the rut come in August which it has done down this way for the past 2 years.

Finnish client in a few days time and then that's me finished on the Roe Bucks for this season. Start on the early Fallow in September and then up to Scotland for the Red and Sika rut.

Thanks again to Tom for all is help this weekend, and looking forward to the highlands with a full rut booked out. Also looking forward to meeting all the new faces on the SD weeks (two this year) in the highlands.

I was in Bonchester Bridge last weekend and although I saw some bucks there was no sign of the rut, however yesterday in Lincoln I watched a buck chasing a doe.

Called a buck in the other night with the buttalo. Good body weight but very poor head. Standing crops esp rape not helping!

Gloucestershire, Chipping Campden, 28th. July 2015, PM: I visited 4 locations from late afternoon until dark, in all cases I used a well planned route to get into position and took care to pick a good spot for calling (Cover in my back, wind head-on etc.).
The weather was around 17-18 C with a stong wind, evening ended with a heavy shower at dusk.
Nothing responded to the calls, but I did spot a group of 3 Roe some 200 Meters away on neighbouring ground (no permission) of which one was being mated.
Bumped a Roe doe on my own ground.
Nothing shot.

I was out with a chum on his ground west of Alford Aberdeenshire Monday evening. The weather was rather chilly to say we are in July. Anyway gave a hoot on the butillo and a stag came out of the woods. Last night I was on my ground east of Alford and saw a bit of rutting activity and the butillo had no reaction, though we did get a buck. Incidentally, what made our evening was seeing an osprey flying over with a fish.

In my part of Aberdeenshire I have found that the beginning of August sees the roe rut well on the way
