Roe Rut 2023

No real chasing from what I know of but the deer are starting to pair up with there respective does in there territories, I'm sure a day or two from now actual early days of chasing and rutting will begin and deer that have been elusive will start appearing.

I'm sure most deer will be responding to calling now last week It was very 50/50 mostly young bucks coming in.

Out tonight, had a young buck and doe in a wheat field about 400 yards away, ear twitches were the only response to the Clausen call and the Buttallo so no progress was made.
Shortly after that the temperature dropped clouds rolled in and it started raining so called it a night.
Forecast looks marginally better for tomorrow but we shall see….

Nothing doing in North Lancashire and South Cumbria this morning, all deer on their own. Was not warm. After rain mid morning and now bright it's hot and humid so that might help.
Off to SE Perthshire today.

N Lancs this AM, several unattended does. One wee buck in fenced restock came home with me but nothing responding-I didn’t persist at this point though.

Despite early promise looks like a very conventional rut, my guess peaking 2nd week in august in these parts.

It’s going well in Warwickshire. Two bucks with almost no body fat already and two I’d say about 50% fat depletion.

Go to the same fields/places you have had success in the past. As the years pass it amazes me how predictable the areas are for the roe to rut in. Ive got one tiny field not far from my house that I think I could shoot a roe buck in every other day during the rut.
