Roe Rut

i shot a nice six pointer last night he came to the call. called him in from 400 yards.
then saw another buck with two does, he wasn't letting them get far

The bucks seem to have vanished on my spot its very frustrating before this hot weather there was a fair amount to be seen but over the last week iv hardly seen any at all just the odd doe's.
Had another fruitless look this morning apart from this fella which unfortunately wasn't on mine.

I have had clients stalking Roe for the past few days, 3 of whom this past weekend all collected a buck each including a very nice trophy head that will probably go silver.

I have noticed that many of the bucks are staying hidden and are not venturing out very far, and that most activity is only for about 45 to 60 minutes everyday. I have seen no sign of any rutting activity yet, but if this weather persists I wouldn't mind betting the rut will break out about a week earlier, hopefully sometime this weekend or just after.

Saw a buck with 2 does last evening a bit of chasing went on but nothing that l would say showed any interest, still early days yet.

Was out checking the calves yesterday, about 1pm, and there was a nice 6 point buck chasing a doe for 10-15mins at which point she disappeared through a hedge with him in pursuit.

Not in full flow but getting close here I think :D

An increase in territorial behaviour here and the does seem to be with out young a sure sign they are breaking down but when is always the question earliest i have known here is mid july so it could happen any time.

I was out after foxes (None showed) on one of my permisions yesterday evening (Tuesday 16th July) and spent a good 10 minutes watching a buck very closely tailing a doe and running around her if she got too many paces away from her. They only ran off when they realised that I was just about 25 yards from them. I had my .243 with me but did not attempt a shot even though there was a safe shot on as we are trying to encourage the roe deer in this particular area so to shoot this buck (Who was in really excellent condition and certainly a Silver Medal Head) would have been counter productive!
An encouraging sign that the rut is imminent around here and a pleasure to watch!

i was out this morning , plenty of territorial activity by the bucks but no chasing still a few days away i think !

Speaking to a prof. deer-manager yesterday, here in The Cotswolds, his view was that because of the warm weather the rut wouldn't start for another ten days to two weeks.
I really am baffled because the general consensus seems to be that the best conditions for an active rut are warm weather towards the end July - early August... (?)

I was up near Stirling at the weekend out from very first light (before 04.00) til after 22.00 for two days and I saw does with kids, hinds with calves, stags, lizards, buzzards, trout, flies, midges, owls, ravens, pigeons and a mole.

But a buck? Not a sign.

Did I mention the midges? I'm still scratching.

just in from an evening out on farm land not too far from me first definate sight of rutting a doe ran within 15 yards of me with a buck in hot persuit, further on while gralloching another buck the pair came past again on same ditch side oblivious of me this time 80yds off. so i would guess there will be a lot of activity around this full moon period.

Still no signs of any rutting on my ground, I've been out every day for a week and seen 1 buck in total. I have been eaten alive by horse flies. I see plenty of bucks at night with the lamp so I know they're around.
The suspense is killing me! why can't they just GET ON WITH IT! the weather has been perfect this last week or two. No doubt when they decide to rut it will be rain/fog/sleet again throughout.

Definite signs on two golf courses in Edinburgh over the last two evenings - intense chases, and managed to call in a buck toward dusk last night while waiting for foxes to show. Even saw a pair chasing back and forth across a fairway right between two sets of golfers, totally oblivious to the people.

Just got back in this morning, my usual location for the rut getting started was barren. I did spot a nice Buck in the woods but he was not interested in moving anywhere. Buy this time over the last 2 years in my location the rut was well underway. I suppose with this heat wave we are getting it has possibly delayed the start. I am going to leave it for a week then get out on an early morning stroll round the ground, hopefully by then things will be on the go.
