SACS what do they actually do ?

Good evening david1976,

I know you pay for insurance, you have made that point very clear indeed, and I am pleased you are happy with your chosen insurance provider.

I too welcome the protection of the insurance cover I have from BASC, and personally I appreciate the other work that BASC does, which you and as few others do not think is worth a light.

BASC has done considerably more than just rehashed something on the BBC web site and put it on our own!

Yesterday we were live on Sky News, Ch5 news, did loads of radio interviews including Radio 5 live and BBC Scotland, BBC Wales, local radio stations…today, more interviews live on radio… including just now on Radio 4 news….

So contrary to what you say, BASC has been on national news putting a point over where hundreds of thousands of people will see and hear it.

Evidently a lot of people welcome the work BASC has delivered on these two issues over the last 36 hours or so, and will continue to deliver on this weekend and beyond as needs be.

Evidently, you and other SACS members are happy with their level of response. So we are all happy members!

My regards
David

Well done BASC, I am yet to see any other organisation on the news or radio to anywhere near the degree of BASC. Besides it is probabaly up to the broadcasters who they want to invite onto their screens. I left BASC for a year for a cheaper insurance deal but quickly returned, I like to think I am helping to give our sport a stronger public voice.

oh right, sorry missed those but to be fair one's on Durham police for letting a violent nutter have guns when they should have acted at the earliest opportunity to get them safe as the relatives of the victims pointed out and the others a blanket misfit of a study of information applied to a wider population of deer. There's nothing actually needs said past that.

But if someone needs a sticker for good effort :thumb:

And what have SACS and the others said?

SGA got some good coverage over the deer population stuff today. And also on tail docking over the past few days.

Well, up here anyway.

said... like what? what 'needs' said?

one nutter, who Durham police let keep guns
data being misused for media spin

what do think is actually going to happen? Calm down and shoot some deer rather than worry about what ifs of media spin, because that's all it is.

The nutter had his guns removed. The nutter got them back again. I wonder if he was a member of a shooting organisation who helped get them back?

As in the title, two big stories in two days, not a word as far as I can see from the premier shooting organisation that is SACS

2 incidents which occurred in England you mean?

I would have thought that the name in itself - SCOTTISH association for country sports - would explain why they are not talking about it. If the name is not a big enough give away the maps of Scotland and pictures of thistles may have given that away?

Yes, although it is the Scottish Association for Country Sports, firearms are legislated for in Westminster so there is a need for a response wherever these events happen. Nobody has pistols because of events in Scotland, nobody has semi auto centrefires because of events in England. Petty nationalism is not going to help our sport. I also think that whenever a "nasty" happens only Mike Yardley and the BASC seem to be there putting our case.

David.

So what about all the SACS members who live, work and shoot in England and who have been paying into the SACS coffers all these years? Is this a change is SACS policy that they will no longer help or represent the interests of any member who does not live in Scotland -?:(

I suspect there are many SACS members who live south of the wall who hope you are very wrong david1976...:???:

Another voice of support for BASC here. I think they do a good job and more power to their elbow.

If Ian jumped to defend himself and SACS I would get out the popcorn, but I suspect he's about as concerned by scare mongering in media as I am regarding realistic change to current systems in place and whatever your on about regarding the deer.

What are we terrified about?.... is this a dig a SACS post?... is so why, what happened!?.... why is there not more lapdancing posts on SD?... Why did people jump so high in protest in the first place to a dodgy coroners report?.....Where can I get the original of BK's avatar?...

only some serious questions in there

Front page of the BASC website makes it clear and lets everyone know its the BRITISH association for shooting and conservation.

Front page of the SACS website makes it clear and lets everyone know its the SCOTTISH association for countryside sports.

Self explanatory I would say, both let you know exactly what area of the country covers so you are in no doubt.

And what about all of the BASC members from Scotland Wales and northern Ireland that plough money into BASC getting value for money? I notice from your events tab that 72% of what you offer is in England with the other 28% split between Scotland Wales and northern Ireland. Hardly a fair split is it but you'll take their money anyway so that argument really doesn't add up does it?

With regards to jimbo123p quote above, can you confirm whether or not BASC has fought to have firearms returned on someones behalf resulting in fatal consequences once returned and is this information available through a FOI request?

I had an issue with a new cartridge addition on my last renewal and SACS could not have been more informative and helpful. I'm staying with them!

So are you saying it is right that SACS except money and membership from potential members who are not scottish or living in Scotland knowing that when they try and join

ian has not made that point clear to me in past or present
ian has made it clear he will fight for any member regardless of the postcode
i ask as a member of SACS who does not live in Scotland
also this very site has a club membership set up via SACS

i am also a member of BASC and BDS
should I now be worried and avoid SACS because of this David1976..??
