Sako Ammo Availability Issues

Is any one else struggling to get hold of Sako Powerhead blade in 308?

It seems to be out of stock everywhere I’ve checked, thus far, with no timelines for restock.

Can anyone recommend their preferred non-lead ammo for use on all species? I think I may have to switch brands!

I’ve used Fox Classic Hunter in .308 in 150 grain.
My stalking partner has used same bullet in 139 (?) grain to good effect.

They started with 162gr then released a 120gr then released a 150gr. I believe the 120gr and 150gr are now replaced or going to be? with a 130gr offering. Hopefully they stick with the 130gr because all this swapping about is a pain.

Not sure if the 162gr is staying or not.

To answer the original question I believe you won’t find 120gr (except in my ammo locker) as it’s no more. I think 150 might become limited soon as well. Some shops have 130gr in stock.

All this info came to me from a friend who is an RFD.

Great to know, thanks

its a faff my rifle really liked the 162gr! I think I’ll have to find something else that’s more readily available

Do you know if thats just 308 or all 120gr blade uses?

I've got 40 rounds in my safe waiting for me to run out of the Yewtree I reloaded to run out.

I was under the impression the 162 was popular in Scandinavian due to the larger species of moose, but they may stop importing it into the UK if it's not popular here. My local RFD had plenty of 162 308 rounds and the bullets for reloading too.

The law has changed we had to use 155gr (Sweden) or over bullets at 2000j/100m, now we can use 120gr copper bullets at 2000j/100m for big game so I expect 130-150gr copper bullets to gain in popularity. 120gr are a very light bullet I wouldn`t buy it for moose and bear hunting even then its legal.

I'm currently really struggling to get 6.5 X 55 Powerblade.

For my .308 I use RWS 165gr HIT and 139gr Evo Green. Spendy, but really good

Where are you located? I believe RFD's can still order it through GMK, Holland & Holland Shooting Grounds just outside of London should be able to order some, although you would possibly have to take 200 rounds..

Picked up 300 6.5 120gn Powerhead Blade bullets today so I can reload for my 6.5x47 Lapua.

Already have 300 .30” 162gn Powerhead Blade bullets for the .308W after shooting some factory ammo & confirming it works just as well on fallow as it does on water containers 👍

Thought I'd revive this thread rather than start another.

Struggling to get hold of .270 sako powerhead blade 120grain (Perthshire). Bushwear awaiting delivery since September. Is this a UK wide issue or do I need to travel to get some?

I got a couple of boxes ar Game and Country in Selkirk recently.
Hornady Whitetail are a good substitute if you are struggling. I can chop and change without needing to alter my zero.

That's good to know thanks Slider. Looks like finding a substitute might be the order of the day 🤔

I've got about 5 boxes surplus to requirement, but you're a bit far...

An RFD told me Sako is a nightmare to get hold of, and recommended switching to Hornady CX as it’s always in stock. Has anyone tried the Hornady CX range, and know how it compares?

If it’s ballistic and terminal performance is the same I might solve my Sako availability issues by switching!
