Salt Licks for Deer

Thank you for the advice. Good job I asked. The end result will be a big improvement over what I would have done.

This is the same log, when first put in place:

Quite interesting to see how much it's been smoothed off by a couple of years of licking! The ivy didn't last many minutes!
The block on top is one of the original Red Rockies, before the colour was changed.
I use much the same except cut deep downward spirals as grooves for the wet. (rain) salt to run down.
Waste of time/money threading a rope through the (usual) hole, it just wears through and falls to thr ground.

Willowbank.

Kill the tree and you’ll be in bother.... especially a good hardwood specimen.

The Ash tree in question was hit by the flail mower many times when the rides in the wood have been cut ,so it was scarred bad before the Roe started licking it. No doubt Ash die back will get it soon any way
