That's true Greg but the good feeding has to be grown on the right type of ground.

Thats why the east of Fife has far more medal bucks than say East Lothian even though they are only 20 odd miles apart as the crow flys, yet the feeding and agriculture in these two areas is pretty much the same.

I didn't think this week could get any better.......until this morning!

2 very old medal class bucks with WET weights of 684g and 706g!!!!!

The right hand buck was shot just 200 yards away from were we shot the 10-point silver earlier in the week.

I have carried a comcorder before but just end up filming the bucks we don't shoot. I like to watch the shot through binos for and have found a camcorder gets in the way of what I'm trying to do. I'm the same when I go goose shooting, really need a third person just to concentrate on filming. I guess i'm not so good at multitasking as John Robson, his videos are very good.

Heres a buck I shot a week or so ago.. Its the 1st head Ive done myself. It weighs 400grm The lomgest measurement is 21 cm, unsure if itll go bronze, I did hope at 1st but I think will fall short but Ive no experiance with that either.

If it is 400g full skull i'm afraid it won't be heavy enough to make a medal.

The buck on the left of this pic had a full skull weight of 480g and only just made a bronze.

However, volume has a huge effect on the overall score, this buck weighed 470g and scored 4 cic points higher than the one above,

got 1500acres in perthshire and last 2 weeks have been crap not seeing much at all think these cold east winds been putting them off, hope fully warm up soon and try and get a couple culled out

Thanks PG, It's getting hard work with all this rain and strong winds. Starting to see a few more big bucks chasing and fighting. I'm sure the place will come alive if we get a warm week of sunshine!

Cheers Greg Many an outing in the last few weeks I would have prefered to stay in the house, but you never know. We had one of the gold medals last month in very cold windy driving rain from the east, we got sheltered in behind a fir wood and out he popped at last light.

The wind was still cold this morning for the middle of May, although the sunshine was welcome when it came.

Some nice bucks still fella.Shocking weather here and hailstanes the last 3 days with a strong bitter wind.Heres hoping it warms up shortly.

Hailstanes..... more like fekin marbles.
They were comin doon so hard yesterday with us that the dog ran back to the truck terrified.... were quite sore on the heid too

Very poor showing of bucks wi us so far. Mostly yearlings. Saw an absolute monster (poss gold) about 5 metres over our boundary. Watched him for some time but he wandered off slowly. Will be keeping a special eye on that wee wood this season..

Had my first clients of the season last week, very cold and not much showing until Friday when the temperature got up into double figures, they then began to appear everywhere finished up with twenty five bucks for the week.


Would be a good season if I could keep those sort of figures going till the end, but it will become harder as the cover gets up.

A nice 8 pointer from this morning after seeing him plenty this season but nay getting a chance at a shot.Seen him for the last 3 years and starting to go back but on this bit any buck gets the bullet anyway.Going by his eye he only had vision in one and fine to get him after seeing him for so long.
