SD whisky drinkers

Being the absolute caveman that I am I just sprinkled a few drops of the bitters into the neat malt, after first tasting the malt on its own of course. Very sippable but it's a bit early yet to go again. The U 20's game is only a few hours away, will try the full traditional then.

After being dragged around ASDA like a petulant child by Mrs Koenig this morning ..my attention was drawn to Aber Falls Welsh Single Malt at £11 a bottle. Lucky for me there was one left.

Don’t know much about Welsh Single Malts, but for £11 it’s got to be worth a punt.

If it isn’t, I can always use it as a disinfectant🤣🤣🤣

That right there should be a large red flag in its own right.

Best of luck...

If you like u-peated, sherry matured malts, do yourself a favour and treat yourself to a GlenAllachie 15 year old or one of their 10 year old cask strength releases. You’re very welcome.

Best be quick for the latter, they’re disappearing like snow off a dyke (the dry-stane variety, for the curious among you!). Ask not how I know!

Against Penderyn it is disinfectant :)

Definitely don't drink the one marked "diheintydd"...

Mrs.S62 brought a bottle of Welsh Penderyn (recommended from SD) back from Waitrose last month - really very good.

The Welsh whiskys taste very young to me, I think its because of the Farraday still (a cross between the copper pot and column still) which produces a very light/netural spirit up around 90% by vol and because they are.
I liked one of the comments on thier website refering to their high alcohol percentage ... "If it got to 96% it would essentially become a vodka, but that 4% difference retains a lot of character".
Scotish still draw off around 62%.
Penderyn have install two small pot stills now which should be appearing in thier blends sometime soon but thier (almost vodka) whisky still tastes to fresh and young to me.

If you like it and are looking for something similar the Lindores Abbey whiskys are close ...

Down from £30, I should have added.

Double red flag, being waved by a highly agitated man shouting "Danger, Danger"...

Discounting a product by 65% is normally a sign of something no longer in production, or the retailer accepting the fact that they have dropped the ball and cutting their losses!

Had a drop or two of this last night.

Just opened it: not bad at all. Clearly quite young, but smooth, light with no afterburn. Recommended.

Love this thread but it also makes me feel rather sad! Always enjoyed a dram with my dad, nothing too fancy but the Juras, islay malts. I remember my late mum getting out of bed at 4am and taking the bottle off me and Dad in the kitchen as we put the world to rights. We got sent to our beds with a flea in our ear!! Sadly I can’t do the stuff anymore without a pint of Gaviscon chaser 😞

Has anybody got anything in for Christmas?

Also, any recommendations for an easy drinking bourbon, something smooth, naturally sweet type drink?
