So will the 30-30 hit anything at distance?

That shooters rifle barrel seems to be awfully horizontal for a 1000 yard shot eh wot.
I reckon the barrel needs to be lifted way higher and suggest that there is a huge ? mark over it all.
I went on a search and found a chart.

So what does table of the 30-30's external ballistics tell us exactly? It says that at around the halfway point of 500 yards the bullet will have slowed to less than half of its original velocity, lost 1543 ft pounds of energy (now pushing just 357 lbs), and dropped due to gravitational forces some 126 some inches, and all of this in just a second. What is strange is that this big bullet at 500 yards has just 90 ft lbs more energy than the little .223 Rem. In comparison similar hunting rounds like the 30-06, and the 308 both have around 1200 of energy (assuming energy even matters).

I think the firing position is a good bit higher than the target.

He shoots off a high hill usually.

I've shot mine to 600 with 1/2 power loads with little elevation.

I recommend watching their other many videos first than question their integrity.

Chart above suggests @ 500 there is a 126 inch drop.

Which equates to not very much elevation at the gun. What were you expecting, it needing to be pointed at the moon?
Have you shot something like this over that distance?
 
I've shot my Charles Daly 12 & 30-30 drilling out to 400 yards using 165 BTSP bullets effectively, but that shot is amazing. I have friends who shoot Sharps rifles out to 1,000 yards regularly. It takes a LOT of practice and load development. Virtually everyone I shoot or hunt with loads their own ammo.

With the Daly drilling I use the folding tang peep sight and use the top of it for long shots. Some I just cover the front bead, some 1/2 of the bead, and so on.

They were shooting at well over 1,000 yds in the mid 1800s with muzzleloading rifles with round balls or simple conical bullets. MV abd BCs quite a bit less than even 30-30.

I've watched a few of Balazs Nemeth's videos of long distance shooting with Black Powder rifles on Cap& Ball EU . The man can shoot . I've also watched , and participated , in a few long distance ( 600 yards + ) shoots with similiar firearms myself . Our own Muir can do things at long distance , offhand , that would shock most here . Just because you don't do it doesn't mean others can't , just saying ( not directed at you Heym ) .

One only has to read the ballistics science of it all as shown in the charts.

Yes I have.I won a bet by shooting a crow out of a tree @ 400 yards with an open sighted Lithgow .22 single shot.
I cheated though as I took a rest from the door jamb of the house. True story.

Acc to the chart 1054 inches drop @1000 yards equates to 87 feet.....but that`s science eh not real world stuff on YouTube.

Its as odd as all cack to me lol.
 
From very distant memory, the rear sight on a No4 goes out to 1000 yds

At max elevation this rear sight is only about 2” high than the action. That really would not show much in the way of elevation of the rifle. Somebody could easily enough do the trigonometry on the angular elevation this would give.
 
I have no doubt that the 30-30 will reach out to this distance - hitting anything however…….
Talking of long distances Volley Sights on WW1 Lee Enfields went out to an awful lot further though they were intended for shooting at massed formations - about 3000 yards from memory. If the video inset is real time I made the time of flight about eight seconds!

I use to lob 357 magnum out to 600. All my rifles get pushed out for a bit of fun occasionally. Even a 22. And off hand.
I'm surprised not everybody does it!
 
That's Sam and Mark after work (or something like that). Great videos of long range shooting with many different calibres. I think they even have one with a .357 Marlin 1894 offhand at a steel plate at 700 yds.

Simply it seems to me that even if you needed 1200 minutes of elevation, which is quite a lot that is only 20 degrees which wouldn't look an awful lot in a photo, taken from probably less than 90 degrees side on.
