South Africa Hunting 2021

Hi. What are people thoughts on the chances to fly to South Africa from the U.K. this summer ? I have a rolled over trip from last May to this May, personally I do not think we get there, but friends I am travelling with are a lot more optimistic then I am. Hopefully I will be proven wrong on this one as can’t wait to get back out there even if I did get tick bite fever last time I was out there 😊

Can you push it back to later in the season, Jon? August/September feels more possible than May.

Hi. We did look at July , but not suitable for some of the group. Outfitter is keen for us to keep trying for mid May to as start of the rut. Some of the group only want culls too, so females would be out that late.

We are meant to be going July-August but I’m not holding out much hope
I think you will have more Hope then us. However my group have decided that if the quarantine hotels are still in operation, we would still not go and have to forfeit the flights.

I have another question, what is the legalities of bringing in skins in your luggage that you have shot and had tanned on a previous hunt in 2019. No cities animals, just zebra , blesbok etc .

Just wear them as ponchos therefore classed as clothing.

I am with Carl and that is being optimistic. Can you move it to 2022?

We have already missed 2020 trip as that was cancelled due to covid . Yeah we could move it to 2022 , only the flights are paid for at present. Outfitter does not want any money until we get out there.

I was asking as you can buy a zebra skin in Johannesburg airport and bring them over as hand luggage. I am wondering what the difference it TBH. 🤔
If you have hunted it it needs to land here with vet certificates etc etc and you have to pay duty. Customs etc etc

That would make sense, I guess you get some sort of document with skins if purchasing them in the airport prior to departure home.

Yes you do, if you get a receipt from the shops in the cities (cape town/joberg) how could they tell the difference between your zebra and a shop one (wink wink)

Remember that when African officials come across Westerners bending the rules, particularly around animal parts, dollar signs start appearing in their eyes. They also don't distinguish between run-of-the-mill naughtiness and ivory-smugglers. Don't make yourself vulnerable.

My business partner spent three days in a Mozambican jail simply because one of our clients (unbeknownst to us) had put a warthog tusk he'd found into his suitcase to take home to his daughter.
