South Yorkshire

No need to, intelligent members will understand.
I take it you accept all you are told and never look for value for money.
Its just as hard, I can assure you, for people with a smidge of intelligence to support a specific organisation which has failed in so much and yet never found itself to blame. On lead, they are all but one the same - the SGA being rather more representative of shooters on this issue and not having done a volte-face as have all the rest since 2016or later.

Yawn.

South Yorkshire Police.Hardly a force to inspire confidence in the general public. After the Hillsborough tragedy Thatcher said “get them to alter their pocket books”some did! Bloody fools. The Rotherham Asian sex gang was reported to multiple desk sergeants and constables and not one bothered to put the victims complaints into the system.South Yorkshire Police have been a disgrace for years. Now it seems they are struggling to catch gun thieves.I do wonder if there even bothering to “look into it”. Easier for them to get FAC holders to provide security instead of themselves. No Wonder we are in such a mess.

I read yesterday they had arrested another 2 Asians now totalling some 40 odd, for child abuse. The same article stated the police had ignored the evidence for 10 years - someone's head should have rolled long ago for that inecusable and abysmal failing. In my view everyone on the Council (Social Services control) many in the Police FOrce, local MP etc etc etc. Maybe having Cyril Smith as MP in Rochdale changed perspectives ?

What I don't understand is why I'm the only person I know in South Yorkshire who received one of these letters, and I have 5 firearms so shouldn't apply to me any way, others who have more than 6 haven't received one? 🤔

Is it the pistol? Not that it should make a difference , or possibly showing their hand early ?

I do not want to get into a row about this.
One former FEO apparently expresses that view, that the Police would ultimately prefer firearms ownership by members of the public to cease and suddenly this is National Policy?

I have owned firearms all my life. I was a Police Officer for over 30 years - it is a nonsense to suggest that the Police would "ultimately prefer firearms ownership by members of the public to cease". It is correct that each Chief Constable has ultimate authority to decide what rules to impose within their Constabulary area. Some will be pro, some may be anti and some will be neutral. All will be concerned in reducing the risk of harm and it is proper that they do so in a manner which reflects their own geographical issues.

SYP have a spike in theft of firearms - which are then used in further criminality - they have taken steps to address it. So they should. It does not mean that they do not want lawful gun ownership to continue.

I once had a Traffic Officer tell me that airbags should be replaced with bayonets as this would encourage safer driving.
One officer saying that did not make it National Policy.

The history of this goes a bit higher and deeper into the police ranks:

“1. We are satisfied that the holding of firearms by private individuals does contribute to crime committed with firearms; and we concluded that a reduction in the number of firearms in private hands is therefore a desirable end in itself.“

I accept the McKay report written in 1972 expressed those views. It was never adopted. I base my views of Policing in my experience in both the 20th and 21st Century.
There are thousand of reports that make "recommendations" which are simply never adopted - in this particular instance I say thank God.

I think you will find the police would sooner catch speeding motorists and harass gun owners than catch real criminals. Or this is how it looks?

While it's possible SYP have your records wrong, this might not necessarily be driven by the number or type of firearms, or be universal throughout the area.
There hasn't been much response from other SY FAC holders, which is odd.
There might be only a few like you affected, depending on your Postcode and local crime stats.
The police could be targetting high risk groups, which they can do. They have intelligence too.
Could this be likely in your case?:-|
