Staff Injury

I have the misfortune to report that a staff member, the Butler(some of you will know him as Robin) has sustained an injury to his foot, broken it in fact.

This has not been a good time for him lately as this is not the first mishap. Just recently there was what some might call an age related injury, it involved a World War 2 Anderson shelter, and it would seem that Robin whilst attempting home improvements fell through the roof!

The latest incident also has a DIY connotation as apparently he dropped G clamp on his foot and broke it, his foot that is.

However the Butler being made of stern stuff has not been deterred by this minor physical setback as only last evening he was sighted in the capital. Our senior roving reporter, tika 308, could hardly believe his eyes when, having already been made aware of the Butler's accident, spotted him enjoying a day out at London Zoo. Luckily he also managed to obtain photographic evidence of this sighting.

A spokesperson for Team Great Britain has already been on to me to deny rumours that he, the Butler, had gone to London to offer his services to the team.

Here is the photo of him, doing his best to maintain a low profile.

Happy hopping Robin, get well soon you have guiding to do.

John

I tell ya John, it's hard getting the right staff these days, anyone want a job for two weeks in Scotland guiding for me???

No over 60's cripples, or retired Butlers allowed :lol:

Never mind Robin, we shall think of you when we are tucked up by the fire with a nice we dram ;)

Bad luck Robin, get well soon!

Which foot is it? You are welcome to use my quad if it's not your gear change foot! :D

After speaking to Malc last night it sounds like something out of a Roadrunner cartoon... you know the ones where Wile E Coyote is sawing through a branch whilst standing on the same branch

Control thy self young man !
I was still dragging Reds off stoney mountains until I had open heart surgery when I too was in my 60s.
I had to be fired up twice on the jumper leads during the proceedings and the surgeon said that if I had not been a `mountain man` I would have snuffed it.

Good on you,

Only trouble is I doubt JAYB or myself would classify him as a "mountain man" I have trouble getting him to turn the bed sheet down and getting me tea in the morning :D:D and Senior Guide and Waddas will no doubt concur:lol:

Never mind Rob, get better soon mate we have some dates with a Fallow Buck or two arranged on my return.

Now that's naughty Alex, I purposely made no mention of the Walt Disney details surrounding the incident, you make it sound as if he cut out the roof he was standing on !!!

Thank you John for your words of encouragement, the past 3 weeks have been some what of a disaster. I blame Malc :stir: if he had not given me a large chiller I would not have attempted to dismantle the Anderson shelter that has been in the bottom garden since 1939.
I don't know if anyone on this site has ever tried breaking up 9" of reinforced concrete 2.5mtrs x2mtrs x1.5mtrs high but after doing so and having the roof collapse under me, hitting my elbow on the way down (breaking the spur to which a tendon is attached ) that hurt , but not as much as my ankle which got caught and twisted, that really hurt, after an x ray the hospital said, rest it for a week and it should be okay, so after a couple of days I continued to transform the concrete mess into a nice chiller and prep room, so far so good. Three walls up and just the end wall to complete I put in the first of two double glazed windows, the first one in, no trouble, with the help of 2 G clamps to hold them steady while fixing, great . the second just as easy.I took out the clamps and put them on the window sill instead of the floor, turning round to decide what to do next I touched one of them and down they came, end on, to the top of my foot, broken fifth metatarsal, if I had been wearing work boots I would have been okay probably,
So you see if Malc hadn't given me the chiller, and I hadn't had to keep slaving away, before going up to Scotland, to help Malc and the lads from the
S.D. I wouldn't be sitting here in bed with a cup of Earl Grey and the papers every day.
Joking apart I sincerely hope all the lads who are going up in 3 weeks have a great time, I know that Wadas, Senior guide Andy, and Alex (csl) will do everything in there power to get you all onto deer. The scenery is something to behold, and the forest is a fantastic place to stalk, especially at dusk when the Sika scream just behind you and you can't see a thing.

Glad you are on the mend mate, will miss seeing youup here this year, never mind can't be helped.

That shelter has certainly stood the test of time, you certainly did a good job putting up

John

Thanks for the good wishes Mike, unfortunately no amount of instruction on etiquette will make any difference to that rabble,:banghead:

Although I will miss seeing you all, it's Sheila, and her cakes that I will miss the most :thumb:

Alex, thanks for the offer, it's my right foot so if you would like to just pop up from Somerset with the quad i'd be most grateful :D
Bye the way that shelter was put up bye the previous owners at the start of the war and they were evacuated two weeks later:doh:
so other than my children using it, it has been in the way for 72 years.

The cinnamon cakes were very nice indeed but somehow I got the impression that you weren't overly fond of that big cake that was especially baked for you Robin.

I thought THAT cake showed of by best bits Mike, everyone seemed to think it was the Bees knees or was that where my best bits ended up ?

Alex I think we should put a censor of 18 and over on this thread, that picture could curdle milk and its not nice viewing for any young person.................. or come to that anyone really!!
