stalking sticks

I couldn't agree more.

I used to use the 3 legged Bush Wear sticks. They took too long to set up.

My camera tripod is very lightweight, easy to set up and most importantly very stable. I swear by it!!

the problem i find with bi's and tri's
no one learns to shoot properly with out the aid of a set of sticks or just a single stick
as 6.5 said
a good buck or chance is often lost because of time setting up sticks
why set them up in some of these instances just lean into them and use them as a single
if you need to adjust your height slide up or down as you please
a bit of pratice might help to rectify a few problems in the field

Jack you bought a 2.4 mtr length of doweling cost £15.00 then there were travel costs time costs to do the job ,you would have had some enjoyment factor ,but in the end it would have worked out as cheap buying a set of stick form your gun shop .

Not to make the fool out of you Jack just to show its not always cheaper to make something when you add up the total costs .

Ive seen many variations over the years ,from garden canes to hazel sticks, to ski sticks there are pros and cons for them all,
then there's the people that shoot unaided standing well good luck to them not my forty .

I like to know that when its got a heart beat ,I'm not going to cause any suffering with the best placed shot I can have, aided by a bi pod or sticks.

Ive watch people shoot deer whilst standing unaided as there running off with holes in them ,showed to me they had no duty of care to the species they were stalking.
Stick for me are a must even if there for helping you on the hill to take the pressure of your knees when coming down hill our stopping the shake on your scope or binos

Now as the manufacturer of the Quadpod Stalking Sticks I am obviously going to be biased, and must say that you should try and avoid knocking something before you've tried it. I agree with Widows Son that you have a duty of care when shooting deer or indeed foxes and need the most stable shooting platform possible.

I can set up my sticks as fast as any on the market and then shoot a 5 round 1 inch group with a .243 at 100 metres. You will not do that with a couple of canes from the garden and piece of your wifes knicker elastic !

Blot all kidding a side i would not use your type of sticks as the shot would need to be in the parallel of the shooter and i like stone would use my sticks at what ever height i want i just slide up and down the leg i can sit kneel or stand the sticks don't even need to be opened they open as your thumb pushes through the gap. I will of coarse if i can try a set of the quad sticks but my gun shop don't sell them. Yo see he is a good chap and will let us try before we buy. ;)

Hazel stick cut in the wood. only the second one in 40 years of stalking. cost nothing and useing it is second nature.

Shooting Sticks

Shooting sticks are very much like rifles, binos, scopes etc, etc. we all have our preferences. I started some years ago with a 6ft hazel stick and was reasonably proficient with it. A stalking friend had a pair of sticks with a part from a milking cluster doing the job of the lamb tail rubber bands(the pivot). He shot extremely well using this Bi-pod system. They suited him at the time. I thought I could improve his system with the Green garden canes, 6ft long, pivoted with a bolt 9ins from the tops. Worked very well, bit noisy so space the canes with pipe lagging to stop them clanking together. This Bi-pod evolved into a tripod, the third leg being suspended from the pivot point by means of a swivelling ball joint. These sticks proved popular with most of my stalking friends, I made several sets, repaid several outstanding debts and have been using mine for about 8yrs. As with anything, what can start off as a bit clumsy soon becomes an extension of your arm. I can deploy my tripod as quick as I need to and I know I have a stable shooting platform every time. I wouldn't presume to criticise anyone's preferred shooting sticks or any other of their preferences, provided a safe, humane and legal end result is achieved and the person using the equipment is happy with it. I hope I haven't bored you all too much and by the way, if I tried for anything with my wife's knicker elastic the 5 round 1" group would be in my more than generous torso   Cheers, Pete.

x3m1 twin sticks are good enough with some minor mods, i glued on the foam handgrips because they sqeaked/slipped when wet, replaced the plastic 8mm screws that hold the top strap with metal ones, sprayed the whole lot black, took off the fat feet and glued in the skinny ones so i didnt loose them. i use them fully extended or fully retracted for sitting.

wouldnt get rid of the bipod unless its an extra tall one.

have shot off the polecat tripod, far better quality but i still gut shot the bugger (twice)!! :???: probably more suitable for a guide to use when setting up a shot for a client than to carry yourself.

Brilliant.......... I think not ! The last of your pictures shows the "free floating barrel" being secured by the elastics which will make the round go considerably off target. The next thing I'm waiting to hear is that instead of a pair of decent Binos we ought to just put a piece of glass in an empty toilet roll holder - or instead of a good knife for the gralloch we could use a broken bottle 'cos they will both do the job! Get real guys.

We stalkers pay a lot of money for rifles, mounts, scopes, clothing etc, but the one item that is going to ensure a clean and humane kill "for the deers sake" every time is skimped on. If you look back in this thread you will see that a member said, "he had a couple of gutshots". Well I've never shot a deer in the gut and hopefully never will. The reason .............. because I use good gear and leave the garden canes for growing runner beans up!

I should stress that I make and sell the Quadpod Stalking Sticks as a hobby now that I am retired and do not rely on them to make a living. In fact I make very little profit on them. That said, I've sold dozens of sets in the UK and abroad without a single complaint. Most customers indeed come back and say they are the best rifle support they have ever used.

Do you know what, I'm almost tempted to send a set to 6.5 x 55 for field testing to prove my point .................. but maybe not ;)

Blot there are plenty of people you could send your sticks to. Me i don't think i would be a suitable candidate the reason is i am old and quite set in my way i very rarely embrace new technology unless it helps me in the field looking good or shooting good groups will not do it for me . I am an out and about type of chap.
But then again maybe the reason you wont let me field test them is because i am an honest chap and it wouldn't matter who sent me anything it would get tested and it would get a full honest appraisal. ;)

IS THAT A FACT 6.5, you have already stated that you are the person on 2 photos on other posts and they are not you. You have also stated that you are of "BLACK" origin, that is also not true. It is amazing what you find out about someone when you do a little digging. :-P

Blot,

I have never seen your sticks but would love to review them if you want. They may not be for everyone, but I am sure that they will have their place for some riflemen. I personally use a single stick on the open hill and have used bi and tri-pod in the woods.

What a good idea. Lets have a review on the miracle stick that will stop us ever gut shooting a deer again  . So as they are a must have for every stalker i'm sure there are stalkers here who will give the miracle stick a seasons use and report back there findings.
I will look forward to reading an unbiassed account .

I have the answer

Just shoot from the motor :-D

No need for walking boots, walking sticks and if you get a yts lad you don't need a drag rope

Jingngzy are you stalking me mate now that's nice and why bother just send me a pm and i will phone you .You don't need to sneak about asking questions about me just ask me. Like i said that picture isn't me and i have a right to not place my picture on the net just as you do. If you say i am not of black origin thats your choice i my self would certainly say i am an ethnic minority and you have just proved with your post that you totally disregard any post that has any meaning and reply with insults and not real ideas. But i am sure Blot has got a good few honest chaps he can lend the sticks to that will put a very truthful appraisal of them like you may be
You an aw Jingzy you couldnt stalk an old deer up a close
Or may be its men you like
