Been running mine for a month or so now.
Taken a few deer with it and pushed maybe 40 rounds through.
What I’m enjoying most is that is actually more than I needed to do to find a factory ammo to group under 1moa.
Hornady Whitetail is pretty cheap and was 1moa.
I’m getting approx. 0.5moa from Hornady sst superperformance in .308
This is a short barrel 308 for pigs and in tight woods 0.5moa is more than sufficiently accurate for my purposes, however I’m already reloading for a fussy Sako85 in 6.5 so I’ll give 308 a go and update here once I’ve got a recipe that is working.
To be honest I think it a very good value for money rifle regardless of whether or not its a straight pull. I think very quickly you would completely forget its a straight pull - its just a really nice action to use. In many ways it feels like a really well set up mauser action rifle with the very tactile feelings when you cycle the action. With a bolt action you don’t consciously lift the bolt when running it fast - it is all one motion. The Steel just feels the same, indeed all the rotating locking mechanism is within the bolt body. It feels really strong, like a 98 Mauser, and terrified soldier or hunter running it hard won’t break it.
By contrast the Blasers have flimsy little rails and multiple lugs in the locking mechanism. They always feel a bit delicate to me.
Word on the street is that: the rifle’s designer used to work for Blaser and told the head honcho “I’ve got an idea that we can do it better and all out of steel - and ditch the plastic” the HH said no, so the engineer quit and set up Steel-Action.
No idea if this is a true story, but I like it.
