ive just given another local stalker a righ rollocking , 1 for shooting a munty with a .17 (all he had at the time he said ) and 2 for not calling me sooner !

the munty was neck shot and at the time of writing this the track is 36hrs old , im meeting him to track it tonight , at this moment in time this is my BMH xena's oldest track by far and over an unknown distance !

lets see what happens !

If you had a GWP I might hold out some hope...................but a BMH I doubt it.................haha just kidding, good luck.

Ill bet its got a big head and he thought "ill blop it with a 17 in case i dont see him again" hence him being so desperate to find it , and ill bet hes done others and thought "oops never mind its not a big one"

Had a similar thing last month young lad I am supervising (as required on his ticket) was out rabbiting saw the munti and hay presto phones me for the dog! Dog found it after three hours still alive and surpise suprise a very very good head on it. I was tempted to say find someone else to supervise but he would only do it again and not explain the need for a change in supervisor. So it was a long walk back for him to the truck (about a mile) carrying the munti and I also have the head! Not for me just to keep as a reminder to him.

well its situations like this , that we have the SD deer dog register in place .

i do not kow if this guy is a member of this site or not , but at least he did call (better late than never !) and ill go and do my best to find it !

now xena tracks well as long as there is a good foot scent she's not overly keen on blood , and at least the guy has found blood in 2 places along the track so im not going completely blind .

we have had a couple of heavy down pours this afternoon , will a little luck the damp might lift the scent a little more and i hope we'll find it quickly !

found it after an hour , it ran into a wheat field and picked up a tram line found it stone dead and yep it was a medal head .

xena tracked well once we got passed the bloody rabbit warren !

Well done Leec6.5 a nice track :thumb:. But apart from finding the Deer I would also phone the police and report him for useing an unsuitable caliber on deer. I feel These people need to be named and shamed.

well legally ive not got a clue , ive done what was asked of me and ive given him a right rollocking and have told him if ihear of him using a non legal calibre ill inform the law !

as if they would honestly give a monkeys ?

Lee
From my understanding of it all
if you knew the person had committed a crime, so by helping them directly
you could also be held accountable along with the person who had originaly committed it
hopefully some one more legally minded will be able to put you in the picture as to wether you are legally right or wrong
as this could also be your FAC lost aswell , just for trying to help
just got to be carefull

Excellent result for you and xena. Even although this deer may well have been shot with a rifle calibre which is not a legal deer calibre you are not committing any offence in assisting in it's recovery under this circumstance. You cannot be held to be aiding or abetting the commission of a criminal offence after the offence has been committed.

:coat:I can't see Lee has broken the law by finding a deer dead BUT which could have had a missing jaw etc and be suffering as many of us who respond to RTAs have. As a mate(a good one) I know his intentions were the duty of finding a deer what could be suffering, how many of you out there would not have gone, he has a good reputation in my area by many, and as this is an open forum we should commend him on a job well done as many of you have done and put the tin openers back in the drawer please. deerwarden

Thank you all for your kind words. Of encouragement , regardless if I had been breaking the law I would have gone any way.

As a tracking dog owner and handler it is my duty to take the call , and I knew after all the rain we had it would be a difficult track to follow , testing xena to her limits but she persiveared even when I had my doubts.

In the end the track was just over 800yds and at 38hrs old with no blood in sight (rain had washed it away!).

The guy got his comuppance though the munty was fly blown to buggery !

Just a bit more training over rabbit warrens for xena she just can't help sticking her head down a bloody rabbit hole !

Great tracking and satisfying I'll bet!
but also a poor choice of shot on a muntjac IMHO (small target constantly moving!) probably influenced by the poor choice of calibre too...
or just a poor shot, which happens.

Was it still in velvet?

Lee, well done to you and Xena.

IMHO you did the right thing and acted responsibly. In this instance the animal was found dead but it might not have been. If people who have maybe broken the law in some way are discouraged from seeking the services of someone with a trained tracking dog - because they fear that they are going to be shopped - then it could result in uneccessary suffering being caused.

There's no way that Lee has condoned or somehow aiding and abetting an offence being committed, the person who pulled the trigger did that. The alleged offence wasn't witnessed and he's been advised of what he did wrong, now it's up to him to take whatever action he thinks suitable - not do it again, hand himself in, whatever - it's his decision.
