Although THREAD CLOSED...
I'm a Military Police Officer so I'd just like to add my bit that leec6.5 hasn't committed an offence. The police couldn't give a toss what happens after the commission of an offence unless it results in a further offence, which it hasn't. If leec6.5 had taken the carcass or any part of, or helped to hide the carcass knowing that this animal was shot illegally then this is a different matter.
The guy that shot the muntjac committed the offence and by leec6.5 searching for the animal does not put him under any legal liability whatsoever.
Thank you bartzkingx and Gazza on your input
I only asked the question as I hav been put in the same position in the past and was told a different story
so was interested in if any one could give a definitive, so I would not fall fowl of any offence in the future
It seems I was okay to help some one find an illegally taken deer
As for you Lee
I'm a little surprised you feel so offended when no one has tried to to offend you
this thread not only has highligted a grey area in the dog tracking side ,
but it also shows how a trained dog is capable of tracking a lost beast 36 hours later even with a few rain showers thrown in for good measure
so a bloody good find regardless of the situ
as some people may not bother because they think it may not be worth it or the meat will be fecked anyway
Me, I like to look just to make sure
I recently had to go look for a neck shot munty (.243) , it was about 24 hrs later when I got to the shot site
a lot of dried blood that went for 40-50 yards, then nothing
I found the deer another 60 yards on approx still alive , but was accounted for
I do hope you still post a few finds you hav in the future as it is always good to see how other members dogs are getting on
best wishes
