Tikka T3X .223 Varmit or Super Varmit

Thanks very much for everybody’s input, I’ve read them all with interest. I have decided now and I have now purchased a Tikka T3X .223 Polyfade 1-12 twist which I like very much and it will do me just fine, for what I’m going to use it for, I am sure.

Just been looking at the new line of tikka rifles for this year the super varmint looks the business .ceracoted action and barrel.nice stock ect.heres hoping they do away with the silly 20 inch barrels. 24 inch in 204 would be nice.money is burning a hole in my pocket already

It's been nearly a year. How are you getting in with the T3X?

Thinking of getting the same myself now.

Good evening, I am about to purchase a .223 rifle and have been advised to go for the Tikka T3X in Super Varmit 1:12 twist due to its accuracy etc. However on speaking to a staff member in a gun shop a couple of days ago, he stated that due to the extra weight of the Super Varmit, the vast majority of people who purchased one, have returned 6/8 months later and traded it in for the much lighter Varmit rifle. He stated that there is virtually no difference in terms of accuracy over the same distances you could shoot the Super Varmit but it is far more comfortable to use all day due to the lighter weight.
Has anyone had any experience with using both of these rifles in terms of accuracy and weight ?
Thanks.
Let me guess, they had the Varmint in stock?

Weight between the super Varmint and standard Varmint is negligible. The sporter would be a lot lighter.

Having used a T3 extensively in .223 there’s an issue or two I would raise: in .223 there is a feeding issue which can jam the rounds - this is because it’s a scaled action rather than a dedicated action (eg CZ produce a mini Mauser action for .223 which solves the problem) and also with anything above 1-9 twist you will struggle with heavier ammunition especially at longer ranges (or if you do any range work). I have used both Scout and Tikka with similar feeding issues over the years and hope a CZ will resolve this in future.
Nonsense.
It is a standard sized action with a bolt stop and magazine with a spacer.

This doesn’t have to be a problem, my m590 and m595 the precursor to the T3, in .223AI and 25-45 feed the .223 case perfectly well

The new Super Varmint is not stainless and had a different moderator thread.
Current T3X SV specs in .223

I note they offer a 24" and a 20" barrel both in 1:8 twist, but try finding a UK dealer who offers the 24". If it is manufactured why isn't it sold in the UK?
I hate it when I'm told I don't "need" a 24" barrel. It's for me to tell the dealer my requirements, not the other way round.

I have opted to take my TAC A 1 out it’s chasis and stick it in a PSE stock. 24 inch barrel 223 shoots everything I have put through it well.

You can order a 24” on a standard T3X
Back in the day, you could order 20” or 24”, the difference being 6 months special order for the 24” that came unthreaded. So, both lengths were available then. I should imagine that any new rifle non-stock, your looking at a 12 month wait in todays climate, plus the actual cost of the rifle is what the manufacturers state is the cost at time of shipment, so think of todays prices, plus 12 months of mark-up😬

That’s why I generally don’t buy new!

24" barrels are special order. The trouble is by the time your order comes to the top of the list, the model might have been superseded. I had ordered two 24" Super Varmints, waited about 15 months and found a Stainless Varmint that a dealer had had in stock for over a year. Didn't want a cerakoted rifle, and had already bought a moderator with 18x1 thread, then bought another Tikka from an SD member.

Sounds great, but possibly an expensive way to get a 24" .223 short of going full custom.
It was, limited time for target shooting. It was either sell the Tac A1 slowly and then go through the drawn out variation process. Or work with what I had.

Another and possibly cheapest option would be to buy a donor action and fit the barrel of choice.

I on the other hand have always bought new, all having to be ordered x2 Tikka’s, x2 Sako’s, but then I’ve never sold one and still have and use them frequently. All tack drivers
I bought my 6.5x55 CZ550 new and 2 different howa creedmoors, still have the swede and creedmoor number 2…..

Have plenty of second hand rifles that are tack drivers with right load too.

Have never waited for a rifle, life is too short

Absolutely love it Finch !! 10/10 It is very light and easy to carry around. I use Sako Gamehead bullets in both the 53 grain soft points and the Varmit’s and it is extremely accurate, with them, both bullets grouping within my thumbnail at 100m. It’s had foxes stone dead out to 220m with a lamp however having just got a new Pard 007S for it, I can’t wait to try that and see if it can perform even further. The standard setting for the trigger is crisp without being either too heavy or too light for my preference. It has the ceracoat fluted barrel which I like as well. I was also able to use the same ATec moderator that I had for my Sako S20 so all in all I couldn’t fault it.
